I haven't heard their early stuff either.

I heard their debut is a classic.

They're alright.

A good Christian alternative:

The guitarist of that band is on another forum I've part of.

The only one I like is Nocturnal. I would much rather listen to the old school melodic death metal than even that, though. Stuff like Demiurg, Evocation, At the Gates, Carcass, Dismember, Unleashed, Crypt of Kerberos, Eucharist, etc.

I have been listening to a lot of black metal/doom and depressive black metal lately.

Do you like Agalloch? Alcest?

Old school melodeath, eh?
What about In Flames-"Lunar Strain,""Jester Race,""Whoracle"
or Dark Tranquility's "Gallery?"

Yeah, I love them, as well as Neige's (of Alcest) other bands, Peste Noir, Amesoeurs, Mortifera, and Forgotten Woods (black/doom, haven't listened to that one yet).

I haven't listened to old In Flames yet. I have pretty much all of Dark Tranquillity's music. The Gallery is one of my favorites, along with Damage Done and Character. They are a lot different from the ones I mentioned, however (except for maybe Eucharist); the ones I listed are a good deal heavier.

Is anyone going to get Advent's album when it comes out? I'm kind of stoked for it. It's nothing special, but I'm enjoying what I've heard thus far. Wasn't one of their members in Between the Buried and Me or something? I know someone from Oh, Sleeper was. I thought I'd heard that connection with Advent also.

Anyways, my band is recording some demos over the next week with my friend tristan this week so you guys can get an idea of our sound.

Then, within two months we're recording with Concrete Studios with professional quality.

So prepare for at least three demos soon and a mastered EP around the Spring.
For now, add us.

Anyone hear like old Through the Eyes of the Dead?
Meaning their EP and their split with Knife Trade?

Insane stuff.
I saw their recent stuff live, though.
Quite weak.

Even their first two EPs?
What are you smokin'?
Those two CDs are freakin' unreal.

"Malice", their latest album, is indeed terrible.
"Bloodlust", their first full length, is pretty good, but their EPs are INSANE!

They are merely deathcore that tries to be brutal but utterly fails and just ends up being mind-numbingly boring.

Their EPs have really sloppy musicianship as well.

They're trying to be brutal now.
In the past, they were just plain good.
They knew how to put on one heck of a show.

Now, they can't.
Their vocalist sounds like a Corpsegrinder Fisher wannabe that should be sued by the cookie monster that has next to no stage presence.

Well, to each it's own.
I find Through the Eyes of the Dead's split with Knife Trade to be incredibly awesome.
Your opinion though.

List some more sweet bands though.
You seem to know a ton of insane metal bands.

the first two i wasn't so fond of, but so far i like esoteric.

i like bands with more of a beat or a melody..ish thing going on. not so much just crazy psychoticness. if that makes sense.

Just remember that they are The Esoteric; Esoteric is a funeral doom/death band from the UK. Speaking of which, their next release will consist of 2 cds, 7 songs, and over 100 minutes of music. They are insanely heavy and the vocals will scare the crap out of anyone who isn't used to them. The only band I know of that has more disturbing vocals than them is Urna.

Oh and you should also check out Psykup. They're quite unique.

Botch and Converge pretty much invented the genre you like though.

I don't exactly get how you can like Norma Jean and not like Botch since Norma Jean is essentially a Botch rip-off.
Converge, I can understand. I'm not a huge fan of their vocals.

It's cool to see you like my favorite band, Between the Buried and Me.
Don't mock me for having close-minded taste. I don't know why these guys are my favorite they just are and have been ever since I heard Alaska.

Wormed
Abominable Putridity
Soils of Fate
Immolation
Dead Congregation
Aborted
Severe Torture
Gutteral Secrete
Prostitute Disfigurement
Defeated Sanity
Kronos
Cryptopsy (None So Vile, Whisper Supremacy)
Inveracity
Abysmal Torment
Suffocation
Morbid Angel (through Covenant)
Insidious Decrepancy
Monstrosity
Brutality (just reformed)
Funebrarum (and split w/Interment)
Obsidian
Decrepit Birth

Heard them all.
Some are awesome, some are terrible, some are decent.

As far as the other list, I've heard all those two except Crowpath.

chibiphonebooth: Have you heard Dillinger Escape Plan?
They have some songs that are really melodic and some that are really chaotic.

MELODIC:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWtiGLRG1pU

CHAOTIC:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGNb-YT5ECA

Eric: I hope you were joking about Esoteric.
Their vocalist sounds like the guy from Blindside which can't scare the crap out of anyone. XD

Oh, well the stuff off "Redeemer" has more melody.

I was refering to their release "O' God, the Aftermath."
Any band that says "For this record, we were aiming to sound like this band" loses a couple of my respect points.

BE FREAKIN ORIGINAL!
Which is kinda what they accomplished in "Redeemer."

Their release as Luti-Kriss and "Bless the Martyr.." are much better than anything recent from Norma Jean.

Look up this band, btw.
It is Norma Jean's current vocalist's old band:
