I heard about this program called macromedia flash that enables you to make flash animations and gifs. Is this the correct name for the product????

Macromedia Flash MX is the name. Macromedia is where they developed Flash in the first place, and the product name is Flash MX. everyone has Flash, but not the MX version.

i have access to Flash MX at school (full registered version) and it's oh so sweet. you can do so much with it...

Yeah, Lorentz basically told you all about it. The program is awesome, and if you want it, get it. I've had access at my friends, and we played on it a little, it's awesome. I recommend it!

The program (as I recall) is also very expensive.... least it was when I looke into it a while ago.

Too bad... very powerful plug-in.

It's good for some things... I wouldn't design an entire site in flash though.

Flash is magical, I have Flash MX on the mac here.
Maybe our mistakes are what make our fate. Without them, what would shape our lives? Perhaps if we never veered off course, we wouldn't fall in love, or have babies, or be who we are. After all, seasons change. So do cities. People come into your life and people go. But it's comforting to know the ones you love are always in your heart. And if you're very lucky, a plane ride away.

if used correctly, Flash can become a very, very beautiful art tool. why? smooth animation that's illustrated. ever used Illustrator? imagine that with perfect animation and sound. like a movie.

Flash is very useful, but as djnoz mentioned i wouldn't make the entire site with it. usually it takes too long to load anything. people who text surf (people who never wait for graphical things to pop up, just searching real fast through the internet) HATES flash site. and there are indeed many people who wants just text who doesn't want graphics to take TOO long to load. but Flash does.

Well, I was going to start in about the bennifites of it's graphic styles, but I think I'll just let it die. Not too many people will understand anyway. If anyone's really curious, let me know.

But I have to say: IF YOU REALLY WANNA TEXT SURF USE LYNX!!! I can't understand it when people try to do that with a gui web browser and don't even bother to turn off graphics, etc. IMHO: They are not really text surfers.

true, most of them just let one page load and hopefully the browser would have cached it properly and showed all the rest real fast.

and it JUST so happens most of those people who wait patiently use IE, which i use too and i know very well that even if it caches it, doesn't speed anything to the point of being amazing.

i should write my own browser someday... name it Notepad with same icon, make everything look EXACTLY like notepad so it looks like working in school instead of browsing CAA. good thing i'm currently at home...

Maybe this is a dumb question but can you use flash animations and stuff in powerpoint presentations?

i don't think it's dumb at all, it'd be only dumb if you didn't ask.

i don't know, i don't think it's possible, but i never tried it before. didn't need to. maybe there's a plugin...
