RO and Private Servers

Postby Ashley » Tue Jul 26, 2005 10:04 am

Recently, it has come to my attention that members are posting about private Ragnarok Online servers.

The company that runs Ragnarok Online has specifically forbidden private servers; the logic behind it, I'm told, is because when people play on a private server, they don't have to pay to use the game. It's exactly like walking into a store and stealing a Playstation 2 game off the shelf.

I'm going to ask that everyone cease posting about such servers after this date. Any further infractions will result in strikes being issued.

You may want to stick this thread so that everyone will know and not have any excuse if they disobey the rule.

this sounds interesting.... ragnarok. is this a game you purchase? Sounds flawed if you can make a private server and get away with it without paying. I say this is a mistake on their part since people would do it anyways (not people on this site of course =)

But yeah, its good to just stay out of it, good call!

You don't purchase the game. The download is free.

but you pay to play right? IMO its a bad idea to start. I think you should pay to download it, rather than pay to play on servers or whatever their methods are.

i better not even get started.. or else ill tempt myself into the free servers O.o

edit: Point is, I see what ashley is saying, I looked into the R-O Thread (the old one) and did notice a lot of private server players. So I see her motive.

The point of the thread was that it's not allowed to play on private servers as it's a violation of their terms of service and we don't want to be a nucleus for private servers. Whining in this thread just makes noise. If you think the financial model is wrong, then don't play it.

Hi there!

We generally don't encourage gravedigging (pulling up a very old thread), but the exception we make is when someone adds additional *pertinent* information to the thread. I think this qualifies. In addition, this information probably removes the need for this thread to be stickied in the first place. XD
