Copied this from the control panel. Won't let me upgrade (tried that, must have some security too high)

Ug. I was afraid of that. Looks like this program will not continue to work as browsers march into the new milenium. Alright. I guess I'll keep this one as is for now, but I'll keep an open eye for a better solution.

_____I have good news. I had a chit-chat with a friend of mine that programs, he said to go to the following adress.

http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp

_____Then download the following.

JRE 5.0 Update 3 includes the JVM technology
The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications. More info...
Download JRE 5.0 Update 3

_____I downloaded it and it fixed all the problems I was having with the chat. I think everyone should try downloading this update before fussing about the chat room. :comp:
_____Glad it wasn't an IE problem. I don't need any extra programs on my PC.

My computer continues to tell me it can't install and tells me to check with my vendor.

O.o

It won't let you install the latest Java?

CAKelsey wrote:Glad it wasn't an IE problem. I don't need any extra programs on my PC.

I take it you don't realize how funny this statement is? The SINGLE easiest way to get "extra programs on your computer" the kind you DON'T KNOW ABOUT is to use Internet Explorer. The number of security holes in that thing is unbelievable. (Things like, looking at a picture can give you a virus, nasty spyware that reports everything about you to an identity thief - you know, FUN stuff). IFF (if-and-only-if) you are able to update it BEFORE you get on the internet EVERY TIME, you MIGHT be able to protect yourself.

Anyway, I just thought that was too funny to ignore. Shatterheart-the-sage gives health advice (sometimes ;) ).

I think the verdict is that this will work for SOME people, but not for everyone. I guess I'll keep looking for a better one.

_____Well, I use my old PC for the internet. I don't trust any program, and in that mindframe I don't keep anything on this PC that contains anything important. No SS, card numbers, acount numbers, or anything of the like is on this PC. In fact, I don't even put any of that on my work PC.
_____Then again, you have to remmember this is coming from a person who hates cars, TV, insurance, working normal jobs, and pritty much anything that has to do with cash -- I even hate writing checks and bearly know how. I don't know my own SS for crying out loud.
_____On the bright side, my wife knows all of the above, and keeps a good eye on most of it. If it wasn't for her, I would be a hermit.

Is it still giving you that error? If so, the newest version of XP and IE just may not work. >.<

Wait, so does it not work if you have the newest version of XP and Internet Explorer?

Looks like some versions of XP don't deal with the old java coding this chat uses. I might upgrade it someday, but it's not high on my priority list right now. Sorry!

Just a followup, not a gravedig here...

Finally was able to update the latest Java to my computer, and all the previous Chat problems are gone

Unlike the previous errors I got, these are the only ones I get now.
