Emanku's Artistic Stockpile

Postby Emanku » Fri Jan 21, 2005 11:27 am

I love art and making it. My biggest stumbling block is a lack of funds (Scanner, paint, digital camera, canvas . . . all so expensive!). That means most of my creations are simple pencil sketches, oftentimes on lined paper.

However, a little while ago I took an art course from the wife of my church's pastor. She can't draw worth a darn, but her painting is incredible. Under her instruction and supervision, I created three oil paintings.

With what now seems like an ancient digital camera (It uses floppy disks!!!), passed down from my grandfather, I was able to capture the three paintings. I touched them up using the wonders of the Gimp (Which is free, thank God.) and now am putting them here. I'm going to put some of my better sketches here, but the whole process is rather long. Most of my sketches are too light to be visible on that camera . . .

Anyway, tell me what you think. What worked and what didn't. The good points and the bad. Encouragement and constructive criticism are both welcome.

Enjoy my three paintings:
Beauty; Simplicity; Power
Coral Song

&
Darker Shade of Justice (inspired by the Passion of the Christ)

More art will come . . .

Very nice Emanku! Veru good placement and color usage and all that. Man I know where your coming from about having no money to get stuff with. I mostly draw 'cuz it's the cheapest.

OH! Thank you so much for all of your encouragement, everyone!

It's so great to get positive feedback!

So now I've got some new pictures to share. No more paintings yet. (Though there may be soon . . . Yay Christmas!)

Alrighty . . . these four beauties are:

Dayu - A gundam pilot I made. The name seemed to suit him.

An Eagle - Not much to say other than that.

An Airplane Transformer - I'm learning to draw mecha with the help of an art book.

Ferocious - This one is interesting. I was stuck at church after a conference and I was bored so I started doodling on a white board. About an hour and a half and two black hands later, this guy was finished. Not bad for marker on a white board, eh?

The mech looks good, you did a good job of making it more look dimensional.

They are really good, but it felt like coral song was missing something. I liked the first one the most.

Well, anonymous . . . I accept your criticism of Dayu and the dragon. I'm not nearly as good at drawing people as I am with drawing some other things. As for the dragon . . . nowhere near as good as I can do. Dragon's are what I draw best.
With the eagle, however, your critique of the proportions kinda falls flat. I was drawing it using a photograph as reference. And I got it pretty darn close.

I could have sworn I commented on the earlier pics. Anyway, it looks like you're really good at watercoloring and have much potential in everything else. XD I like the mecha ^_^
