So if CAA were a football team....

Talk about anything in here.

So if CAA were a football team....

Postby Ashley » Mon Sep 08, 2003 10:27 am

In honor of the opening weekend for the NFL last night--and because I was couldn't sleep very well last night--I thought up an ongoing analogy:

If CAA were a football team, what position would you name for everyone? For yourself? For me?

Steve will always be my Romo. The stomper, hulking, right hand of the raiders defense.

I'd probably be a wide receiver, since when someone passes the ball to me I usually run with it. That, and the fact that I don't like confrontation. :)

For you, Ash, I'd say coach. Seems like God would proabably have to sit as owner, otherwise I'd put you there.

Interesting analogy, btw. So, who would be quarterback? We need someone who is not affraid to take the initiative, but pass the ball to other people. That person also has to make quick judgement calls based on extensive input from the coach/owner. How about the Gyper?

I like that name. I'm afraid I'm gonna have to use it from now on. Sorry Gyp, but's it's GOTTA be done.

As for center, I'd nominate UC. Anyone wanna take a guess as to why?

I haven't the slightest idea, I don't really watch football unless it's Grey Cup time. The Ti-Cats haven't won a game all season this year anyways :(
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

Heheh. Seems I can't escape nicknames no matter where I am.

And if I knew what a center in football did, I could take a guess. Is it the same as soccer and basketball?

I'd be...

The ref!

Happenin' wardrobe (gotta love those black and white pinstripes), yells a lot, and gets to blow a whistle! Man, refs have got it made.

Heh. Not quite. The center is the guy that hikes the ball. He starts every play. Hint. Hint.

Well, based simply on football positions, if we were really going to go out and play a game, I'd like to play running back on offense, safety on defense, and I could also punt, though not kick field goals or kickoffs.

As an allegory to CAA, I'd have to say offensive line, probably offensive tackle. I'm not very flashy, but I don't mind being down in the trenches, I like to support the "main players", and I'm definitely a team player--I don't need the glory.

Hey! Look at it this way:

The chargers provide great entertainment value to those who otherwise might be tempted to take football to seriously.

So you'd want to have me yelling in your face all the time Spence? Brave little dude...but I bet it's because refs look like confused penguins, isn't it?
Just a coach? Man, I was hoping for like, right guard or something(which was my position in powderpuff--tore my ACL lig. playing that). I love football, and most of all, I love being with you guys down on the field when the going gets tough.
I think Ink's gotta have a position on defense; she's always extremely quick to defend us, verbally.
St. Peter would be our mascot (he makes us laugh) and Technomancer our cheerguy.
Gyppers would scowl and be the one with the towl on her head by the gatorade jug  Well, given her experience with soccer, I nominate her for head-special teams kicker person.

I'd definitely be an LB or a D-Liner so I could try to spook the other team into a false start.

what position would I play? Id play the part of the guy in the owners box, rakeing in all the profits of my trained gurillas in padding on the field. maby takeing a few potshots with a pellet gun at the field to spice everything up. RUN YOU MONKEYS RUN!!! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!......... Ok that really has nothing to do with caa. but it would make football more entertaining.

No, no no. It was basketball that I'd end up scowling on the bench with the towel over my head. It really is amazing how a temper and five fouls mix. And what is that supposed to mean in representation to CAA? *glares*

And for a second, I thought you said - I nominate her head for teams special kicker person ... and I was like, how mean!

It's ok, sister, I feel your pain. One time I fouled out in the second quarter. Only two were really fouls on me though. One of them wasn't really a foul, one of them was two of the other team's players tripping each other, and the last one wasn't me, it was my teammate. :(

You asked for it! ^_~ Remembering from my experiences with some of you at Anime Angels...

Ashley would be the "teammate named McCloud" who goes around not letting anyone ask silly questions; all the while speaking in rhyme.

Gypsy would be in charge of the overhead projector at the beginning of the game when the national anthem plays; but while she can't get it to work then, it will suddenly come on by itself somewhere in the middle of the game.

As for myself, I'd be the one wandering around the field constantly confused about which sport we're playing.

(Well, that's it; I'm out of ideas. But honestly, now I can see myself going into "Days in the Life of CAA" as the guy who overplugs Anime Angels... )
