LA Channel 18

Every sunday at 10, this local channel plays a christian show in Japanese. I normally avoid Christian TV (I am incredibly sick of TBN because my parents watch it all the time and it's so... glitzy, and golden, and white suits and jewelry...) but I started watching this show, and I must say... I've been moved every time I see it. It's subtitled, and after hearing stupid people say that Japan is too hard to bring to Christ, it's good hearing the testimonies of all these people. Every week it's a new personal testimony, and I am very encouraged and my passion to see the nation of Japan reached for God grows.

They have many of the same struggles, and they also have different ones. Japanese culture is greatly different than American culture, even ignoring the language. That's obvious. However there is no unconquerable language, even for someone 40 or 50 I believe, and there is no Culture you can not integrate into if you give it time and effort.

I think that the cultural focus on animation, manga, and games creates a great opportunity to reach them at their culture. CBN (pat robertson) understood that at one time, but I'd heard reports about christians giving up on Japan, calling it impenatrable and saying that a westerner could never understand their culture. That is so incredibly against what God has planned, it's not even funny.

I plan on going to Japan with the Missions organization I was with. I'm probably going next year, but perhaps not... There are a lot of things I need to get straightened out. I plan on going there to make connections

I'm not listening to the naysayers (including one of those trolls who made a comment that really caught me off guard considering I heard it here) I'm excited about going to japan, but this will be short term... See, I still need to go to school for animation and, perhaps, game design. When all of this is over with, I'll probably go back permanently I've got a long road ahead...

Well, when it comes down to it our acceptance of Christ as Lord, it's a personal decision. I think though there may be obstacles initially, especially if you live in a place like Japan where Buddhism and Shintoism are the dominant religions (sorry if that's wrong...2am=braindead) what draws us to Christ is the Holy Spirit...
Christ said if he be lifted up he would draw all men unto himself (sorry I forget where it is in scripture).
All MEN should include the Japanese, IMHO. So, I agree with you. I think that even though, your culture/upbringing can effect your viewpoint to some extent...if you have that conviction or pull from the Holy Spirit, then salvation will follow *perhaps not right away, but you never know that the seed you plant could be the starting point to someone's salvation* ummm, did that make any sense? *scratches head* And if they feel that "pull' on their hearts and choose not to respond..well, they are free to make the choice. But to say that a particular culture is unreachable?? I think that's wrong. So if God is leading you to Japan..hey i think it's wonderful!! I would love to do missionary work there myself someday, to be honest.

Sorry if this post didn't make sense...I really need to go to bed.....

"Why do people not notice until they lose it?
What it is that's truly important...
Although I can't afford to forgive even myself,
Because you were there,
I was able to be myself (Natural).
I want to be honest...I want to be kind...
I want to be the adult I once (in my childhood) longed to be.
I go on fighting against the heart to run away...
I go on fighting against that invisible something!"

Good for you! Say "Nee!" to the naysayers, I say! :thumb:

Seriously, it's awesome that you're planning to minister in Japan. Let nothing stop you (except God, if He so chooses, of course).

I'm speaking up (if I haven't already) I think it would be a VERY cool idea. I don't have transportation either, but I could probably ask someone to bring me.

I think this is a great idea. -^.^- Just not in north San Diego county (i.e. Oceanside) because that would be too far for me. -^.^-

Right then. The current plan, in a coupla months, is we'll hang out maybe at one of the local San Diego beaches or something. We might carpool for people all coming from various places, like there's a few of us in the Loathsome, I mean, Inland Empire (cough), and there's some SD locals already. If people want to make my apartment in Colton (San Bernardino) a stop-off point for people coming down from points north (Rashiir, oldp/Eire, PsychoAnn, ... ?), we could do that too, and all head down from here.

(Note that if you come over here to crash, you'll have to ignore the server fan whine. Sorry, this is a geek apartment, after all. ;) )

This sounds really  -^.^-

LOL, I don't think anyone could stay at my place because it's too small already (1 double-wide manufactured home, 4 people, 7 cats, one dog, you do the math, or the meowth ~.^) and I don't drive.

Nevertheless, it's a great idea, and just give me the time and place-and I'd do my best to be there. -^.^-
