Anyway, how do you eject a cd or zip in Windows? Dragging it to the trash is not the only way, it's just one way in Mac OS X (BTW when you are dragging a CD or Zip Disk, the trash can turns into the eject symbol). You can also right-click (or control-click on a one button mouse) on it and choose eject, go to File: Eject, or you can push the eject button on your keyboard or the cd tray. I don't understand how having more than one way to do something is not a good thing.
Finally, which version of Photoshop were you using that ran slowly on the G4?
Last question first: I used Photoshop 6 on both machines. It was just before 7 came out, I believe.
I installed the DivX codec on the mac. It would not run the files directly, it had a proxy program that converted the files after making a copy of it. QT would not run divx directly, so therefore the "codec" wasn't installed on QT in the real sense.
In windows, I eject a cd or a zip disk by using the Eject button, which on the G4's were missing (actually, there was an eject button on the CD but it didn't do anything... It only opened the tray if it was empty) Also, I can eject cd's on windows by right clicking on the CD icon and telling it to eject. There was no such option on the G4's I used. The ONLY way to eject it if it was full was to drag it to the Trash Can. Therefore, I couldn't eject the zip when the computer was off.
I think you can focus so much on originality that you lose functionality. And that's not a good thing. Perhaps these problems I speak of have been fixed on the G5's, but I'm going by what i have used, and that's what gave macs a bad review for me. I still don't know what gave windows such a bad name for all of you, other than the fact that it's owned by an evil controlling corporation. I don't buy any more microsoft products than the ones that come free. Windows XP, Works, and a few other things (like IE, which I like much more than Netscape, and seeing as how Mozilla is just open-source Netscape, I don't see myself liking it either, but I haven't tried yet)
Oh, and as for another thing that bugged me. Maybe this is just Microsoft ripping off their mac users, but in text submission like this on the Mac version of IE, I tried to use the home key to take me to the beginning of the line. That's what it was made for, but it didn't do that. In fact, it served no purpose. Then, I had written a lengthy post somewhere and I wanted to edit one word on the end of my line... Instead of taking me to the end of the line, the end button "ended" Internet explorer... All of those buttons (insert, delete, home, end, page up, page down) were meant to have WORD PROCESSING FUNCTIONS and while delete (on windows) has had a second function, using end to end a program is just stupid. Oh, and as for cosmetic stuff, I'm used to the delete button deleting files, but I understand that it wouldn't if you want to use those 6 for word processing functions only, but no... That's not what home and end were for on THIS mac...
(I know that Macs don't have the blue screen of death, but to be fair neither does windows XP...)
Use whatever you want, but you won't convert me to Mac. I know windows too well... I know how to get done exactly what I want to get done and I have very few problems with it.
Anyhow, I s'pose this whole mac/windows argument is way off topic, but there's nothing wrong with being a 'geek' in fact that's a compliment. Nerd on the other hand... that's one I don't take too kindly to... Don't ask me why.
