The Veritas Project series by Frank Perretti
Anybody else read these? Ive read both Hangman's Curse and Nightmare Academy . I became interested in this series after I saw the movie version of Hangman's Curse. After reading both, I must say that they are seriously really good. I couldnt put them down. Nightmare Academy was better IMO. It was just so, so enthralling. So has anyone else read them and what did you think?

I read the first in the series simply because I like some of Frank Perretti's work. Actually, I was sincerely hoping for a supernatural twist, so the book left me somewhat dissapointed. It was decent, despite the strawmaning in the science classroom.

Read both, bought the movie. Love Frank Peretti! =3 He's great and puts a nice light on things.

I've read them both. I enjoyed them although the second was technically better.

Yep. Read 'em both. AHngman's curse had me sleeping in my sister's bed for several days. 
But I agree that Nightmare Academy was better. More of a thinking book which is much more my cup o' tea.

These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.
Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.
But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. Could I receive details about both the second book in the series as well as the movie? From the consistently positive reviews, I am considering pursuing the series further.

Movie? What's the quality like of that? I've not heard of the books, I might have to look them up (I loved 3 out of 4 of Peretti's first books if you start counting from This Present Darkness).
Is this geared toward youth type reading or general Peretti style fiction? (not that it really matters much considering some of the other things I enjoy )

It's geared more toward kids/youth, similar to Peretti's previous Indiana Jones-esque series, The Cooper Kids Adventures...although unlike that series and most of Perretti's works, The Veritas Project has not yet involved any actual supernatural activity.Could I receive details about both the second book in the series as well as the movie? Anyways, I enjoyed it more than the first one. Nothing supernatural was involved but it did involve more interesting concepts and had more action than Hangman's Curse. And the whole plot and purpose of the entire "academy" was more interesting in general.
I haven't seen the movie so I am unaware as to how good it is or how closely it follows the first book.

I seriously doubt I will see the movie, but you have interested me enough to see if any public library nearby has the second book in the series.

I'm upset that of all the GOOD peretti books that are begging to have films, this is the first one to receive one (hangman's curse) Gah... It was advertised on "To End All Wars" dvd...
Actually, I have no clue if the book's any good, but it's a children's book, and I've read the cooper kids... If this is anything like that, they really should have done TPD or Oath before this...
My sorta-brother not-in-law (my brother's brother-in-law)was working on a movie version of TPD, but his project bombed and it will likely not be picked up again because they let the studios volley them until there was nothing left to the project...
I hope someone with real talent picks up the Oath...
If this is the same style as the Cooper Kids, I don't really feel like reading it... If it is a little more grown up, then I may pick it up. Not that I have anything against children's books (I'm totally into Harry Potter now) but I'm just not into his children's books...

Ok, Nightmare Academy is the book that i would suggest you read before you judge them. It is a great intellectual book. The movie for Hangman's Curse is a good flick to watch. Don't lump it before you've tried it.

I absolutely loooovvveee those books! I read them and then I read them both to my brother. Then later, after I saw Hangman's Curse the movie, I read Hangman's Curse again! I've seen the movie around five times and although it's not the best quality movie, it's pretty darn good! My parents saw it and they liked it, too.
