Well, after watching Bakemonogatari, I wasn't about to stop there ;) , so I decided to watch (or, in Kizumonogatari's case, *read*, since it's really quite important to the plot, but the movie adaptation hasn't been produced yet :shady: ) the rest of it as well, in the order that the novels were published.

Which means the next one I watched (after reading Kizu, that is) was Nisemonogatari-- which was mostly a 'meh' for me. :shady: It didn't really 'feel' like Bake much of the time, for one thing; and, for another, there was a whole lot more fanservice/etc. (and Bake already had plenty enough of that to go around in the first place, IMHO  ). I'd heard that this was the (pretty much universally) least-liked part of the Monogatari series, and I can certainly see why-- the extra fanservice did kind-of overpower the story and even the trademark dialogue a number of times. :shake: :forehead: Still, once past that now-rather-obnoxious-level of fanservice :eyeroll: , the underlying plot (...when it actually appeared :P ) *was* an intriguing-- and ultimately necessary-- part of Monogatari as a whole, as it served to introduce the rather deliciously evil SPOILER: Highlight text to read: Kaiki, as well as the two new female onmyouji; plus of course that excellent twist with Tsukihi. There were also some nice developments between Araragi and Shinobu (though unfortunately most of that did occur during one of the more gratuitous fanservice sequences  ... and it also probably doesn't make much sense unless you already knew what happened in Kizu {...insert more complaints about that movie not being done yet here :P }), as well as Araragi and Senjougahara. <3 And it did have a great finale. Despite those good points, though, I have to say that if Bakemonogatari is difficult to recommend (as Maokun describes, and I agree), Nisemonogatari is so much more so that if some of the story wasn't necessary to the later series I doubt I'd recommend it at all.

...Thankfully, however, the 4-episode OVA Nekomonogatari: Black goes right back to the formula that worked so well in Bake-- yes, the fanservice/etc. is prominent, but it's not overpowering (and, in fact, is actually surprisingly tolerable); the dialogues are the real focus once more, and are as excellent as ever; the humor is genuinely hilarious again; and the tense and serious parts are fantastic as well. In fact, in some ways I think I actually liked Neko Black even a little more than Bake! :pikka: (...Although nothing beats the Araragi x Senjougahara stuff, of course. :thumb:  )

Looking forward to watching the "Second Season" now. :)
Saved by grace.

@MangaRocks Glad to see someone reading Kizu before continuing with the rest of the series. It really does have important information to understand Araragi's relationship with Hanekawa and Shinobu which leaves the anime in an awkward place. While I totally understand the level of fanservice in Nise being quite deterring, I actually liked it as a whole better than Bake with the introduction of Tsukihi, queen of banter, and Shinobu who actually gets lines this time around. I feel most of the hate for Nise comes from a lack of appreciation for what the series is supposed to be. That is, for a series that shines for its dialogue rather than plot/action, Nise really showed off this capability better than Bake which basically only had Gahara-san's sharp tongue to work with. Have fun with second season :)

I'm watching...
Shingeki no Kyojin (like it so far, I'm a fan of the manga and I can't wait to see them adapt more of it)
Free! (only watched 2 episodes, it's a cute show)
Danganronpa (only watched episode 1 so far, but interesting albeit creepy premise)
Steins;Gate (the first half was so boring and dragged, but the second half of the show more than makes up for it in my opinion)

Watched all I could of Attack on Titan, on Crunchyroll.

This anime is AMAZING! The emotion, the action, the animation, the plot.....!! You feel just as horrified as the characters living in that world, and whenever someone is being motivational, you feel motivated as well!

This is definitely an anime I shall follow as it comes out, like I did with Steins;Gate.

Thank goodness for that! I was wondering how this show became so popular after struggling through 2 episodes. There's a ray of hope! :)

I just finished Amnesia. It definitely had cliche characters and a not-that-developed plot, but I loved the animation and music.

Right now I'm working on SDF Macross. Recently watched episode 19. I had started this last summer, and then kinda ran out of time and energy for it. My goal is to finish it up before the start of the next semester, if I can. (I teach at a university, and I don't have much time for anime when classes are in session.)

I'm lucky in that the ending of this show hasn't been spoiled for me, so I actually don't know how the romance plot is going to end up. Right now it looks like there are quite a few cracks in the Hikaru X Minmay relationship. Interesting.

I'm also watching Free. Looks beautiful. If I have more to say about that one, it'll be in the designated thread. So far I think that's the only thing from this season that I'm going to watch!

Up to the first 4 episodes of Star Driver and I know it's early days but I can't shake the feeling that a whole lot of nothing is happening, but with a whole lot of style. Ep 4 had an interesting twist on the battle of the week but I'm hoping more plot besides "evil guys want to accomplish XYZ, stop evil guys accomplishing XYZ" arrives soon. The blue haired guy is totally inconsequential to the show so far and SPOILER: Highlight text to read: is everyone but the drama club and maybe the school principle are a part of the evil organisation? It's a bit excessive. Still liking it though 'cause it's gorgeous to look at.

Rainbow 5 & 6: Okay I know hope and friendship etc are strong themes of this show, but it is rough getting through all the dark aspects. I can't remember when last, if ever, I watched something with such absolutely hate-able villains, I just want to climb into the screen and do something to them. SPOILER: Highlight text to read: From the bit in the OP right at the beginning I don't think Sakuragi is making it to the end of episode 26, but I really hope I'm wrong.

Dat CQC. (Un?)fortunately, that kind of thing doesn't fly in real matches. One of my pet peeves also showed up in the episode... people taking the game waaaay too seriously.

Still trying to watch all of Gintama before moving on the other stuff in my huge Crunchyroll queue. It can be difficult to watch for very long during some slow episodes, but so help me I am going to watch all of it.

Also watching Free in a little bit.

@GeneD: Star Driver's plot gets pretty complicated later on, with all the character arcs and love polygons. And the battle-of-the-week keeps changing, too. Ending was a little weird, but it's a pretty solid show, all told. I gave it 7/10.

Oh, and what I'm watching... lots of new stuff I can't gobble down in a binge. *whimper*

Oh dear... it has been TOO LONG since I last posted in this thread. Last check shows I posted in October 2012.

Mega-post inbound. (I'll try to keep it brief though!)

Currently Watching

Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn (On Hold)
Episode 6 done. Still loving this series. Still a bummer that I have to wait until Spring 2014 to finish it and move on with the UC Timeline (my own decision there though).

Gundam Seed
At about 10 episodes in, it's not a bad A.U. Gundam series. However, it feels a little bit too powerful too early in comparison to Gundam 0079 (which the storyline starts out quite similar to), and there's one character (Flay) that's quite annoying. Still, in pursuit of my Gundam Degrees (watching the entire mega-franchise), I will finish it, no matter what.

Kurau Phantom Memory
A sci-fi title that's not well-known among most (I think), it's got a lot of characteristics similar to Ghost in the Shell, with a lot more heart and family thrown in, or at least in a different way. So far, I like it. The dub is pretty good.

Completed (Hoo boy...)

Bodacious Space Pirates (GRADE: GOOD)
I'm not known for watching current/new titles all that much, since there's so many oldies but goldies (not yours, Zorg) around out there. But a good friend of mine on this site persuaded me to watch this one, and I have to say that I really liked it. I'm definitely looking forward to the second season when it comes out.

Chi's Sweet Home (GRADE: FAIR)
If i had a "GRADE: CUTE" in my scale, I'd apply it here. If you like slice-of-life series with short episode times (3 minutes apiece) and you want to boost your watch count (eheh), go for this. Be forewarned that the character-writing can get annoying sometimes though. Maximum recommended daily dose: 10 episodes.

Fairy Tail (GRADE: EXCELLENT)
I finally caught up to this series a couple weeks ago... only to find out along the way that they had halted production temporarily in order to allow the manga to get far enough forward (which cuts down on filler eps/arcs) or something like that. But my goodness, this Magic Games Arc... just blew me away in character growth and focus, and excellent battle-writing. The way they presented their biggest points about life and friendship in there, like they have before, left me with a case of (good) sads and withdrawl for at least 3 days after watching Ep. 175. I so want this series to start up again real soon. If I had a slot for Big Leaguer Series (300+ eps) in my Top 10 List, this would take it.

Hetalia (GRADE: FAIR)
I also caught up to this series (Beautiful World Ep. 20) as of last Sunday. While the content is still amusing, I must say that my opinion of the series has dropped since watching the first season (Axis Powers). It seems to me like some sort of energy that used to be there is... well, absent. Can't really put my finger on it. Still, since I'm obsessed with title completion, I will soldier on. Maybe it will turn around again soon. "Hetalia!"

Ghost in the Shell (GRADE: GOOD)/Ghost in the Shell II: Innocence (GRADE: FAIR)/Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (GRADE: GOOD)
Ah, finally, one of the big sci-fi classics that everyone has been telling me about. First movie was great to watch, gave a good introduction to the GITS world. Second movie was a bit confusing, but nonetheless very well-produced. SAC started out well, then had a somewhat boring middle, but a very strong finish, leading to an overall good feeling for the series. Still need to watch 2nd GIG, Solid State Society, and Arise (when that eventually comes out for streaming or purchase).

K-On! (GRADE: GOOD)
The same "good friend on this site" mentioned earlier also persuaded me to watch K-On!. I've now seen the entire franchise, and it was a lot of fun to watch. The characters were all so likable, and I found myself IM-ing to my friend or saying aloud things like... "Mio... Mio, no. *Headshake/smile*", among many other reactions. I now want to watch more music-oriented series as a result.

Mahou Sensei Negima OVAs (GRADE: FAIR)
The followups to the first Negima series. They didn't seem to do a good job of covering things, especially since it seems like the manga hadn't finished yet, or had only just finished and they didn't have time to follow everything. I don't read manga often, but Negima is one that I've read a good portion of, and the manga is better than the anime here, in my opinion. I need to finish that manga someday...

Nichijou/My Ordinary Life (GRADE: EXCELLENT)
Earlier this past Spring (2013), I was watching the April Fools edition of AMV Hell 6 (the real version came out a few weeks later), which had a bunch of Fus Ro Dah AMV clips in it. Nichijou popped up several times, and bemused by the bizarre-yet-awesome pain laser scenes in question, I looked up the series. Another couple weeks later and I decided to add it into my upcoming schedule. I haven't laughed this hard at a school-based anime series since Ouran High School Host Club! It now sits proudly in my Top 10 List, and I would watch it again with anyone else who hasn't yet seen it in a heartbeat.

Negima?! (GRADE: FAIR)
The darker of the two full-length Negima series. There were some good moments in this one, but the production and animation values were the real meat of it. I liked a similar title better though...

Puella Magi Madoka Magica (GRADE: EXCELLENT)
The similar title in question? THIS ONE. The third and final series that my friend on this site showed me last year. This was perhaps the craziest emotional roller coaster in anime I had been on since Gurren Lagann, and it was much darker. There were times where I wanted to punch my screen out in frustration because of a CERTAIN ALIEN CHARACTER and his crazy logic, and there were times where I was almost in full crying mode, but the end proved to make all of that worth it. Still need to get around to the movies for this title.

Zipang (GRADE: GOOD)
This lesser-known title is a great series for military history buffs, and for those who want to watch something naval-related with super-realistic characters, ranks, and actions. Basically, a modern-day missile-guided cruiser for the JMSDF (with actual adult sailors) gets sucked into a time warp on her maiden voyage... into the end of the Battle of Midway in World War II. A lot of great conversations about the ethics of altering history, who makes history, and who fights wars and why. Shame that the series was made in the middle of the manga, but even with the cliffhanger ending, it's a solid effort.

And possibly others I might have left out... I think I got most of them, though.

Episode Count: 2,612
On the way to 3000... probably by the end of this year.

Reason for edit: several typos.

@skreyola Yeah they've been using an original approach to the battle of the week almost each time so it's keeping things interesting. Also Sugata got to do a little bit too, when he SPOILER: Highlight text to read: fell into a coma I thought he'd gone from mostly useless to completely useless but yay he woke up, although now he's gone back to meh 'cause he might coma again if he uses his power. :/
ep 5: Fanservice can be SPOILER: Highlight text to read: a self-inflicted handicap in a battle. That was hilarious. Even Takuto didn't know how he won that one.
ep 8: I thought it was brilliant when all the Glittering Crux ladies think that SPOILER: Highlight text to read: Scarlet Kiss' power is making Sugata fight Takuto but nope they were just about to fight anyway.
ep 9: I miss SPOILER: Highlight text to read: Fish Girl's song and the story of Sam the Squid Piercer.

Garden of Words: This was ridiculously pretty my goodness. A little too heavy on the blur in some parts though. I liked the story too though, could identify with Yukino somewhat. Second favourite Shinkai after Lost Voices and I was chuffed for recognising two voice actresses, from other roles not their actual names though. Also, chocolate and beer sounds like an excellent combo to me.

Oh and hey with Garden of Words I hit 150 completed series+movies+OAVs on MAL, yay me. ^__^

Clannad After Story episodes 18 and 19.

SPOILER: Highlight text to read: After seeing Tomoya's reunion with his daughter in episode 18, I was truly impressed. Tomoya's Grandmother's speech aside, the episode was beautiful. Tomoya realizing how much he became like his father in his neglect of Ushio and not only becoming dedicated to doing better but actually doing better and acting like a father should, I cried, deeply. :waah!: But I'm okay now.

So when I got to epsiode 19, I had some expectations; not necessarily grand ones mind you but some kind of poignant moment between Tomoya and his father, something to complete the circle and show that deep down Nayouki loves his son and feels bad about neglecting him all these years. So I watched... nothing, I watched more...... still nothing. I watched through the end......... :shady: :mutter: :bang: Tomoya bears his heart to his father, apologizes for being a "worthless ungrateful son" and all but begs for reconciliation (mind you, he is saying all this to his first abusive then neglectful alcoholic father). And what does his dear old Dad say? He says "sure" "okay" and "thank you" like some flipping STORE CLERK! no "I'm sorry I couldn't do better for you" no "I'm sorry for bringing you down like this" not even "don't cry over someone like me" nope; just his normal polite banalities with hardly a shred of fatherly affection beyond one dispassionate pat on the head. But even that's not the worst of it; nope, not Tomoya debasing himself before his sorry excuse for a father and not his father's complete lack of repentance. What really takes the cake is what Nayouki says when Tomoya first asks him to return to his (Nayouki's) mother: Nayouki says "is it finally over?". As if he's been doing something for Tomoya for the last 6 years. Let's see what has he done in the last 6 years... drink, gamble, deal drugs, ooh! and ruin Tomoya's chance at a big job opportunity. Yep, that's our Nayuki! Always working hard for his son! I mean seriously!

Haah! i feel much better having that off my chest. :)

I'm up to episode 16 of both Star Driver and Rainbow and both were super emotional.

On Rainbow, since I haven't commented on that in a while I'll just say SPOILER: Highlight text to read: RIP Sakuragi, you were too good to live. For the most recent episode, I'm glad that they legally got Mario out of going to jail, I really thought it was going to be another breakout and then he's just going to be on the run forever. The ep ended on such a high note I was too paranoid to watch the next one for fear of something terrible happening.

On Star Driver, somewhere along the way I got a little bored with the formula again but the last few eps were really good. I wasn't nuts about her at first but Mizuno definitely grew on me a lot, ironically her and Marino felt like real people, while Sugata and to an extent even Wako still feel like flat, cookie-cutter characters to me. I have my suspicions that SPOILER: Highlight text to read: green haired science girl is the last maiden, but I'll see I guess. And I'm glad Marino didn't disappear for good. Takuto's grandfather has the best face.

I want to watch these so bad but its gonna take a while. And I'll have to resist the urge to stop and watch Yu-Gi-Oh! Baccano! ep.'s 1-13 + the 3 OVA specials (and I'm not sure why the latter were even separated at all in the first place, since like a metric ton of stuff gets wrapped up in them... ) (complete, sub):

Whoa-- that was quite a ride! :thumb: Thank you guys for encouraging me to watch this. :) Yes, the violence-- when it appeared-- was indeed absolutely ruthless (and rather graphic, too-- ugh, episode 9  ... and the flashback in one of the later episodes with that sicko Fermet nearly made me ill... :pikka: :comp: :?: ), but I was aware of that beforehand, and both the story and the way it was told was well worth the occasional wince. :) And those characters... oh man, don't even get me started on the characters-- I could go on for a good long while about each of them. Instead, I'll just say that I liked how while just about every single one of them was a criminal of one sort or another (and a couple were downright terrifying  ), most were actually quite charismatic and/or fascinating (...and also delightfully weird/nuts, LOL  -- like Isaac & Miria, for example; oh my gosh they were hysterical!   And I'm also pretty sure that Graham Specter is the most hilarious psychopath I've ever seen   ). In fact, I was surprised at how many funny moments there were, thanks to the characters' personalities and dialogue/interactions/reactions; that really balanced things out nicely. :thumb:

And the whole basic structure of the series in and of itself was fascinating, too: There were a *lot* of characters (and respective mafia families/terrorist groups/gangs/etc. that they're a part of and enemies with), a *lot* of switching back-and-forth to different years (and different times *within* those same years-- much of it out of order, besides, even within single sequences of events {!}-- so you definitely had to keep your wits about you as you watched ;) ), and a *lot* of seemingly unconnected and conflicting interests/events (at first)... but the way that everything was indeed actually connected and how it all got woven together in the end was genius! :jump: And (another big plus in my book, since I'm pretty picky about endings  ) the series also ends in a *very* satisfying way-- twice! (The last 5 episodes {and I'm including the OVA's here} in particular were crazy and fantastic  )-- while still being just a part of quite an epic tale, and that's rather impressive, IMO. It's *also* a series where rewatches will definitely be well rewarded, especially in those earlier episodes where you originally didn't know what was going on your first time through.

So, to sum it all up, aside from a few aforementioned winces here and there :) , I really enjoyed this-- and I can't wait to dig further into this world and these characters with the novels! :jump:
Saved by grace.

I finished Black Blood Brothers and Planet of the Beast King. Black Blood Brothers desperately needs a sequel. They made these great characters and then didn't do anything with them!
Planet of the Beast King had the worst characterization I've ever seen. Man! The only ones we got close to knowing were third and Thor, of course. But there was room for so much more! I did like the storyline, though, especially the second half.
