Clannad episodes 9-10

I cried in episode 9 :sniffle: I wasn't expecting to, but...so touching T_T And I'm constantly amazed at Tomoya's compassion for the people around him. It's like he needs someone to be utterly kind to, and he keeps on managing to find them.

Finished East of Eden, while being in Thailand and Malaysia, and then finished Steins;Gate. Two crazy but awesome shows, minus some language obviously and some coarse jokes. I think they are actually a little bit similar in the way the shows go. I liked both, even though they are totally unrelated.

Library War: The Wings Of Revolution, a.k.a. Toshokan Sensou: Kakumei no Tsubasa, movie (sub):

Yes! :jump: I was finally able to see this-- and I quite enjoyed it. :) SPOILER: Highlight text to read: First things first: TWO KISSES EACH x TWO COUPLES YES-- and Kasahara and Dojo got married! :jump:  ...Oh, and yeah, the plot was good, too. And while the TV series did have quite a good ending in and of itself, this movie makes for a very nice overall conclusion, both for the romance and for the overarching censorship plot. :thumb:

Watched Wolf Children and Library War: The Wings of Revolution last night. They were both incredibly good. Wolf Children was good because of Mamoru Hosoda and his excellent characters and storytelling. Library War: The Wings of Revolution was good because of the romance and that it ends pretty conclusively.

^ LOL, I just watched Wolf Children, too! (And Sword Of The Stranger. :) ) Thoughts on both of these:

Wolf Children, a.k.a. Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki, movie (sub):

This was really beautiful-- both in visuals and in story. I was actually a little surprised at SPOILER: Highlight text to read: how shocking the wolf's death-- and callous disposal :pikka: -- was, even though I knew about it already right from the synopsis. But I guess that just goes to show how well-done this movie is. :) Other misc. things of note: The playing-in-the-snow and running-through-the-forest scenes were amazing! :wow!: Also amazing was the fact that, even though this story has a fantasy element to it with the wolf-people, it was actually incredibly realistic. As for character stuff, Hana is one of the strongest women I've seen portrayed in any story (not just anime). And the SPOILER: Highlight text to read: friendship (and do I detect even a possible future romance, perhaps? ;) ) Yuki has with that kid Souhei was sweet, too. :) The *only* thing extra that I might have wished for is there to have been just a couple more minutes focused on the buildup of the parents' romance in the beginning, because while they definitely did a great job of portraying it in the time it was given-- the wolf was obviously a really sweet guy  , and you could tell they really loved each other, etc.-- it felt just a little bit too short, IMO. (Though, thinking about it, that may have actually been the point, of course-- plus, SPOILER: Highlight text to read: the dream/spirit/whatever reunion near the end was one of the most sweetly romantic scenes I've seen in an anime, so I guess that pretty much made up for it. Still... :P ) Regardless of my romantic side wanting just a little bit more, though, LOL  , that doesn't stop me from giving this movie a full 10/10, because it was absolutely wonderful! :jump:

And the Sword Of The Stranger movie (sub):

This was also excellent, though in a different way-- I mean, its story isn't the deepest ever or anything (and it actually seems to borrow a little from Rurouni Kenshin at a couple of points :P ), though it's certainly decent enough; it's just that the real fun of the movie is the action (and the visuals that go along with it). Seriously, the fight scenes are incredible (in fact, to date, they're the best animated fights I've seen)! :wow!: And the pacing of the whole movie is great, too. Plus, the music was good; and it had a pretty great ending, as well. I would've loved to have seen this in a theater at least once-- I think it definitely deserves it-- but, regardless of the medium, I'm glad I watched it, and will definitely do so again! :)

Watched Ep. 20 of Robotics;Notes tonight. Could it be this show has a happy ending? I don't dare to hope, given the knife twists I've endured so far.
Also, lots of Beast Player Erin. Awesome show, but way too much recap.

Redline movie (sub):

Well, I definitely loved the art; and the music was great, too. :) However, while the races are downright spectacular (in fact the last one is pretty much utter madness, LOL  ), there are in fact just two of them-- one at the beginning and one at the end-- and to be honest it actually got a little boring for me in the middle  , starting from around the part where the TV network was introducing the other racers up until just before the actual Redline race (...plus it certainly could've done without that kinda random nudity there, too  ). The finale was great, though. So, in the end, I guess it was a pretty fun ride ;) , and worth the watch for me regardless. :)

Otome Youkai Zakuro is pretty much a testament to the power of incompetent staff members. I've heard the stories about Chiaki Kon, of course, but it's almost impressive how she took a fun show and burnt it into the ground. The first two thirds of the show was actually a lot better than I was expecting. It felt like it was written by a rabid shipper and nothing was particularly remarkable but it was unintentionally hilarious, had some nicely animated fights, and the characters were likable. Then, as the show decides it needs to wrap up, it decides to get pretty terrible all of a sudden, where we have a suddenly incestuous villain, a kind of ridiculous backstory, and a bunch of drama I completely managed to not care about. In the end, I guess it kind of balances out into being kinda okay I guess.

Gundam 0080 on the other hand was awesome. It went down about how I expected it to based on what I've heard but I ended up really liking it and getting involved in the characters. At least to me it's a bit hard to talk about, but it is definitely worth your time if you like nice things. It also had surprisingly awesome robot fights, something I wasn't expecting since nobody talks about them when talking about the show. Anyways, it's short and you don't really need to know anything about Gundam to appreciate it.

(Whoa, I guess I must be in a movie mood-- I just realized that this is like my fifth one in a week, LOL!  Anyway...)

Lupin III: The Castle Of Cagliostro movie (sub):

Watched this because it was directed by Hayao Miyazaki + I'd heard it was a pretty great and fun little caper flick. And indeed it was! It was wonderfully cartoonish, genuinely amusing, had beautifully-drawn settings, and was just plain ol' good fun. I quite enjoyed it. :thumb:

Watched Magi 13 and 14. The new OP reminds me a lot of FMA OP's, both the music and visuals. I'm still enjoying it although I was getting a teeny tiny bit bored with the Balbadd arc, here's hoping they wrap it up soon.

I just watched Tsumiki no Ie. It was amazing. 12 minutes. 1 character. 0 words. And yet, it successfully delivers a simple, straightforward, but emotion-filled story that other anime fail to do in 12-26 episodes.

Cowboy Bebop ep.'s 1-26 (complete, sub): As befitting of a classic, this was indeed excellent. :) I loved its space western setting, music, characters, art/animation, (very well-done!) fights, humor, depth... everything. I've got nothing else to say, except that it was more than well worth the watch! :thumb:

And I also watched the Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' On Heaven's Door movie (sub): This was basically just an extra-long standalone midquel ep. with a slower pace and (even) better animation, but it was certainly worth the watch as well. :)

Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War In The Pocket OVA's 1-6 (complete, sub):

My thanks once again to SubtleDoc and Hat'n'Clogs respectively for their recommendation/reminder to watch this-- because it was indeed quite good! :thumb: Via their and others' recommendations here, I've put several mecha anime on my plan-to-watch list; however, this particular show had the honor of being my first real foray into it, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect.

Well, what I got was a pretty darn realistic (and, in the end, pretty moving) depiction of a naive kid in a peaceful, neutral colony discovering what war is really like-- with the robots just being the weapons used in service to the plot. Consider me impressed.

Eeeeeeexcellent. We'll make a mechaphile out of you yet. (Hint: Watch Giant Robo next. It'll make you a good person.)

Anyway, yeah, glad to see so much 0080 love all of a sudden. It's the best Gundam that I've seen so far (though I've been watching Zeta, and it's been darn tootin'), and for good reason - it's the complete package. I like how it handles the "war is bad" message, and even uses it to complement the action - the fight scenes are stunning spectacles, but at the same time the mobile suits get treated as these terrifying, alien engines of destruction. I also loved the creeping dread I got watching Alfred get wrapped up in the commandoes' plan - you know what's going to happen eventually, and you see how enthusiastic he gets about playing soldier with his new Zeon besties, and when their plan finally goes into action...yeah. Great show.

Finished Eureka Seven Ao.

Hmm, well, I'm just gonna put my rant into a spoiler tag...

SPOILER: Highlight text to read: Right, it's been a couple of months since I saw the previous 22 episodes. And to be honest, I really liked the last two.
(But that's only mostly because I love Renton and Eureka.)
Characters: No development really whatsoever, and every time it seemed like there was going to be any, it would disappear. What. >>
And the relationships were just really confusing and hard to read... I mean, okay so Fleur likes Ao? But doesn't Ao like Naru? After awhile I felt like 'who really cares???'
(And you know that when an uber-ship-every-one-always-has-at-least-one-otp-each-anime-series person like me feels that way, that something is very, very wrong.)
All of the side characters/most of the main characters, were really flat, and I felt like horribly annoyed each time one of the would try to come off as all deep... Because I had no idea what anyone was thinking or doing half the time!
I was too busy being confused to miss that aspect though. Normally I don't mind a muddy plot so long as the characters are great, so again this is another reason E7AO failed me.

Plot: (LOL WUT PLOT~?!) It was already thread-bare before, but after the writers decided to use that cannon thing repeatedly and reset stuff a bunch, I dunno, after awhile all I wanted was for Ao to find his parents and leave the stupid world already and go back to the one from the previous show. Only I didn't get that, now did I BONES!? No. Instead lets make it so poor Renton and Eureka can't have children in the world from the original show, (because, you know, they turn to stone! So they die! YAY! /sarc ... *sobbing* my poor babies... ;_;)
so when another baby is on the way, they search for another place to have it so the little scamper can live. (Still confused on that part, THAT is what they were doing, right? Pretty sure, anyway.)
I found that to be quite sweet/heart wrenching, and it made me tear up a bit.

Anyway, the last few episodes were nice, Ao finally understood his Dad, Renton is still a great guy, Eureka and Renton return to the trapar world... And Ao lives?? Yeah, thought he was going to die. Don't get me wrong, I prefer it when an anime actually lets someone live. But him dying would make just a bit more sense. And now nobody knows of him, so fresh start?
Okay, and lastly, does this mean that Eureka can't have children ever? because they'll die as soon as they're born??? If that's true... then I'm ****. Renton and Eureka should be able to have a family, and all that. Seriously, BONES, not cool. :shady:

And also, the OST was pretty cool, but the best music was that song that played at the end of episode 22. I was like, FINALLY. This is E7 music I recognize. And of course older Renton made me so freaking happy, you have no idea. :D (really, older Renton and Eureka are like the only reasons I have any sort of love for this show. ...okay, Ao, too, just a little.)
The animation was good, the openings and ending were pretty good. I liked the last op and ed best.

...And for the last time, if it's made canon that Renton and Eureka can't have babies that live, I'll sue. :comp:

I give it a 6.5 (gave it a 7 on MAL to be kind, though.)

AngelicTotoro: I went through those same emotions and most of the same thoughts when I saw it. I hate the production company for not making it clear that the second and third series were NOT CANON but alternate universe stories. Actually, I hat them for making the second and third series, taunting me with more Eureka awesomeness and slapping me in the face with what it really was, which was not at all awesome, even when taken as standalone stories.
