TopazRaven wrote: I know a lot of people suggest skipping the 2003 anime and watching Brotherhood instead considering it follows the manga better, but we decided to watch the old one first anyway. Pretty good so far!

My own personal recommendation is that people watch the first anime before Brotherhood, because there are a lot of deeply involved character interactions in it that are completely and totally glossed over in the first 15 episodes of Brotherhood since the producers of Brotherhood assumed those who were watching it had already seen the first version. Not that you should skip those episodes in Brotherhood by any means - there are a lot of details changed between the original and Brotherhood - but I found certain events to be far more involved and compelling in the first one.

But both should definitely be watched in time.

Ef -Tale of Memories- 4-6- I'm warming up to this more, but it's still not the epic, masterful romance that many claim it to be.

I'm back to running Yu-Gi-Oh marathons, although I wish Saiunkoku had another season so I could watch that instead. That was totally awesome!

Atria: Thank you for the recommendation.

Tonight, I watched one each of Cross Game and Honey & Clover. Still trying to figure out the answer to Yuta-kun's question, and surprised I didn't notice how advanced the foreshadowing was the other times I've re-watched this.

Digimon Tamers ep.'s 1-51 (complete, sub): Well, I've loved the first two Digimon series (Adventure 01 and Adventure 02) ever since I was a kid (and I still do-- for kids' shows, they're quite good!); however, for some reason I'd never seen much of the third Digimon series and actually hadn't thought about doing so until the discussion about it here in one of the recent "Best Anime Of {Year}" threads. So, I just finally got the time to marathon it, and... well, IMO it takes quite a while to get good in comparison to the first two series. :P Once it (finally ;) ) does, though, I'd rate it the same as 01 and 02 (and in fact its storyline gets even more serious towards the end than theirs do). So, to sum it up, while I did not enjoy *all* of this series as much as I enjoyed all of the first two, I think it does get as good as them eventually, and was certainly worth the watch. :)

...Oh, and I also watched the Digimon Tamers: Bousou Digimon Tokkyuu (Runaway Locomon) movie (sub), too. It was basically just a (slightly-better-animated) light episode, and fairly unnecessary; but it was certainly nice to see that SPOILER: Highlight text to read: everyone was indeed back together again (as the ending of the TV series had heavily implied would happen). :)
Saved by grace.

Almost done Claymore! Also, I am now up to speed for From The New World. I started and stalled both A Certain Magical Index and Fairy Tale as well as finished Chu2, My Little Monster, SAO, Kamisama Kiss, and Say I Love You.

I still have some catching up to do for fall stuff... I didn't focus much on anime around exams. (And some I haven't watched for even longer... Sorry, Blast of Tempest. ^^;)

Cross Game & Clover; Interestingly enough, both shows use the clover as a thematic element. I only had time for one ep of each tonight.

Caught up to episode 12 of Magi - I'm rather shocked at how closely this follows the manga! And since I really like the manga, I'm also super-thrilled about that.
Episode 13 of Shin Sekai Yori - *low whistle* Well, I'm not impressed by all of the plot developments, but this still manages a half-decent story.

and on episode 3 of Girls Und Panzer - still standing out as the dark horse of the fall season. I mean, this is no Strike Witches. This doesn't do battles for the sake of pantyshots - these girls are in it to win it and a lot of things are taken pretty seriously. The lightheartedness mostly comes from these girls being... well, high-school girls!

Only Yesterday, a.k.a. Omoide Poroporo, movie (sub): I didn't personally enjoy this quite as much as I've enjoyed some of Ghibli's other slice-of-life stuff (for example, I liked Ocean Waves better, and Whisper Of The Heart is actually my favorite Ghibli film of all time!); however, personal enjoyment level aside, it was certainly well-done, and worth the watch once.

Also, The Tatami Galaxy ep.'s 1-11 (complete, sub): ...Well, that was an experience. First: holy crap, I've never heard/seen such fast narration with subs before-- I'm actually a speed-reader, and that still took me a couple of minutes to get used to, LOL :P (though I actually really liked the speedy delivery of the narration once I did-- and it was so witty, too ;) ). And I absolutely loved the art ( + found the occasional use of stylized live-action elements intriguing as well), along with the music (particularly the fantastic OP and ED). Also, the actual structure of the entire show was pretty ingenious-- SPOILER: Highlight text to read: especially as little plot points from previous episodes fit perfectly into ones later on (and even change your perspective on some things as they do), plus of course that brilliant destruction/explanation (/and even inversion of some parts!) of the show's entire formula during the last couple of episodes. And to top it all off, it had quite a satisfying ending, too! :thumb: Only downside is that it did have too much innuendo for me to be able to recommend it very freely  ; however, personally, it was well worth the watch. :)

Tonight, I watched ep. 2:8 of Honey & Clover and one of Cross Game (last night, same shows, one each).
I think Yuta and Hagu would suit each other very well, based on their personalities and career paths. I mean, SPOILER: Highlight text to read: what could be better for an artist than traveling around the country and spending time at scenic locations like traditional temples? And they're a cute couple. :)

I just finished Fullmetal Alchemist, the sacred star of Milos. It was a great movie, except that I can't figure out where it fits in either anime timeline. Also, you didn't HAVE to drag Winry in and then give her, like, ten seconds of screen time.

Humanity Has Declined 1-12 (complete) - BWAHAHAHA! Man. This is really sharp, witty, and clever, and a fun ride every moment. It revels in some out-there humor (suicidal bread) but makes the characters react totally in-character, with the main character (who remains unnamed throughout the entire series) an adorable cynic keeping a perspective of normalcy... though even she has her own quirks. It hit all the right buttons for me. A fantastic series!

Put Clannad on hold for a little while, but watched plenty of anime over Christmas break! ^_^

Wolf's Rain - I shared this with my sisters, since they wanted an anime with wolves in it. It was great to go through this story again; it's one of my favorites. And of course I ended up bawling over Tsume, as always.

The Borrowers Arrietty (or whatever the English title is supposed to be) - Okay, so my mom neglected to check the back of the case, and this only had Japanese audio. So we thought, "Okay, let's just watch with English subtitles. No problem." But those subtitles were the worst I've ever seen, even worse than the crappy fansub of Kodocha I watched way way back. It barely subbed half the lines! DX So we watched it anyway, and thankfully there's not a whole lot of talking in it, and we had to rely on the few tidbits the subtitles gave us, and the random Japanese words and phrases I've picked up in my years of watching anime. We got the basic gist of it, but I'd still like to watch it with full understanding sometime. Anyway, gorgeous animation, as is to be expected. It was really interesting to see things from that perspective, especially with the attention to detail you always find in Ghibli movies.

Trigun - Also watched this with my sisters, and I'm happy to say they loved it. I always forget how crazy Vash is, and marvel over the kind of things he manages to get away with just because of who he is.

Record of Lodoss War - This really scratched the high fantasy itch my brother and I were feeling, so this was just the thing to watch. Cheesy, and very obviously derivative of D&D, but that made it fun to watch. We basically had our own Lodoss Abridged Series going on while we were watching, yet we still enjoyed it fully.

Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight - We managed until episode 10 of this before giving up. Everything about the dragon-slaying was all good fun, but once it became clear they were bringing in a new hero, we just gave up on it. I disliked Spark from the moment he came on screen, so we just cut our losses and dropped this show. It was fun while it lasted, though. I especially liked laughing at all the stupid names. I mean, come on. Who names the rising hero Parn, or the evil sorcerer bad guy who strikes fear in all his victims...Wagnard? o.0

One Stormy Night - Another movie I watched with my sisters because they wanted something with wolves. It's a truly heartwarming story about a wolf and a goat who become friends, and run up against every tradition and instinct to remain faithful to that friendship. The animation was a little weird, but cute, and the music was beautiful. Definitely one I'd like to show to my kids one day.

Trigun: Badlands Rumble - Finally got around to seeing this! This movie is everything I was expecting - just another fun adventure in Vash's travels, with craziness and fun action. The animation was amazing, especially because I got to see the blu-ray version. It's as though you watch the entire anime series through a foggy window, but when you watch Badlands Rumble you open the window and see what it's really like. Amazing. It was also interesting to hear how the seiyuu's voices had changed in the past ten or so years, even though they sounded like the same characters. I felt like Masaya Onosaka didn't have quite the same delightful exaggeration in his voice, but oh well.

The screenplay is based on an actual D&D campaign, if I recall correctly, so it's basically a paignlog in anime form. :)

this! The series is so great! My favorite episodes are when they went through creating their own manga, when the mediator met the assistant, and when the mediator bcame queen of the fairies.

Finished watching the Excel Saga. It is a really great hilarious crazy anime parodying anime genres.

Just started Bunny drop, I haven't watched or found a good anime for well over a year, so I'm really hoping this will be good. I am so picky with anime I have just about given up haha. This seems like a very cute quirky anime though, I'm enjoying it so far.

Illegally ^.^" The Anime Network has it for legal streaming, but unless you have a paid subscription, you can only watch the first episode.

Also, Bunny Drop is awesome and I don't think you'll be disappointed.
