What Scriptures are your favorite?

Postby TheMewster » Fri Jul 08, 2011 3:57 pm

I was wondering, brothers and sisters, what Scriptures do you consider the most beautiful; the most edifying, and all around your favorite? Mine are: Pretty much all of 1st Corinthians chapter 13, Romans 5:8, Romans 10:9, Proverbs 19:23, 1 Timothy 1:17, and Ephesians 5:1-2.

Besides the one in my signature, I like Psalm 134 (in which being with God is compared to a weaned child with its mother), the story of the Prodigal Son, and Paul's treatise on love in the Letter to the Corinthians. (I think that's the one)
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you. I appointed you to be a prophet of all nations."
--Jeremiah 1:5

Isaiah 43:1-7, Psalm 103 (the entire chapter), John 9:1-3, Romans 8 (entire chapter), 2 Corinthians 4:7-8 and 4:16-18
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Philippians 2:5-11 and 4:6-7, Isaiah 40 and 52:13-53:12, Luke 18:9-14. From the Psalms, 18 (from which my signature is taken) is one of several favorites. Besides these, there are undoubtedly others which I'm forgetting at the moment.
Let others believe in the God who brings men to trial and judges them. I shall cling to the God who resurrects the dead.

Proverbs 15:1 ~ practically my motto
[SIZE="2"]We've all got wounds, we've all got scars
Sometimes it hurts, sometimes it's hard
Don't give up hope, don't give up hope

'Cause He's got those wounds, and He's got those scars
And with His blood He heals our hearts
He is our hope, He is our hope!

a few of my favorite verses...

Postby SailorDove » Wed Jul 13, 2011 10:11 pm

Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.
Proverbs 2:11

Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

both from Matthew 5

Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless;
maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed.
Rescue the weak and needy;
deliver them from the hand of the wicked.

Psalms 82:3-4

But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise;
and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

1 Corinthians 1:27

and 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (aka the "Love is patient" verse)

2 cor 5:17
If any man be in Christ he is a new creation, the old has passed away, behold the new has come
And this I pray, that your love would abound still, more and more with real knowledge and all discernment. Be prepared to preach the gospel at a moment's notice. Do you know the gospel well enough to do so yourself? Be ready.
