Movies and other stuff using 3D? Your thoughts.

Have you noticed that more movies and other media entertainment are currently using [color="Red"]3[/color][color="Blue"]D[/color] features lately since the Avatar movie craze?

What is your opinion about this? Does it annoy you that a lot of movies uses the 3D features in theaters that is should go back to traditional viewing without it or 3D features are a cool thing to see movies?

Depends. I've enjoyed some movies in 3D (HTTYD was fabulous in it- well worth the price!). But I wouldn't do it for every movie- it gets silly, and some movies just don't work well with it, like ones that are mostly dialogue.

I don't really like 3D that much. It hurts my eyes. That's about the only reason why I don't like it, though...

I'm the same as Ally. 3D hurts my eyes and makes me dizzy unless it is done well. (Typically in animated movies, How to Train Your Dragon used it well). The problem for me is that 3D is just enough that my eyes don't "catch" it and react well enough with it for me to actually see it the majority of the time. That's what makes me feel sick because of it.

I enjoyed the 3D in AVATAR, but for all else its just a dumb gimmick that makes it hard to watch movies with dark scenes in it. It practically ruined Toy Story 3 for me.

I personally think 3D sucks. Sure it's cool for the first few minutes, but after that it becomes kinda boring because you get used to it.


And also, 3D never enhances any movie in my opinion. A movie should be judged mostly off of the story, not the graphics. I mean it can look beautiful and be horrible or it can look horrible but be heartwarming.

It depends on the movie. Some movies just shouldn't have 3D. But other movies would look great with 3D. As long as the movie was filmed with 3D in mind, instead of being converted to 3D because it would sell more tickets, it's fine.

But I don't know if I agree with "stick to the traditional way". I'm sure some people said the same thing when 'talkies' came out, and when more movies were being filmed in color, rather than black and white. And now hardly anyone watches black and white movies, and even fewer people want to see a silent film. The same thing could happen with 3D movies.

I just wish you didn't have to wear those stupid glasses. I already have to wear glasses to see the screen clearly, and I doubt it would work or be very comfortable if I wore them together.

3D is dying due to a lack of creativity with the technology, poor projection standards, studio greed, and a very large ticket premium.

It's unfortunate, really. I'm still holding out hope that experimental films will play with it and find some interesting things to do with the tool.

I thought Shrek 4 was better in 3d. i thought Narnia was... not really better, but wasn't hurt by 3d. I think the 3ds is worse for having 3d because I can't actually see it. I think "converted" 3d movies (like clash of the titans) are terrible. Basically, 3d is only good with fully CG movies, and not on a small screen and NEVER with "pop out" 3d like Captain EO or something... Because I can't see the 3d on those, either. I can't focus on them. I could as a kid, but something happened to my eyes since then.

I don't mind the concept of 3D. If a production is filmed in 3D (like Avatar was), then all the more power to it. Converting a 2D film to 3D just for the purpose of ticket prices and making more money from a gimmick is awful, but if it's used properly I'm okay with it. Otherwise it tends to give me eyestrain and a headache, which I prefer to avoid at all costs. XD

On that note, The Hobbit, which is currently in production, is being shot in 3D, as well as being shot at 48 frames per second, as opposed to the usual 24. According to the people who've seen this technique used alongside 3D, it makes the picture MUCH smoother to watch, and also doesn't cause the headache that 24fps with 3D often causes. XD I'll be interested in seeing it used that way, at any rate. XD

That being said, whether or not a movie is in 3D has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not I'll go to see it. XD And even then, I tend to choose the 2D showings over the 3D, simply because they're so much cheaper. XD

How I feel about 3D:

1. It's stupid.
2. It sucks.
3. I hate it.

I usually only enjoy 3D when going to the IMAX theater (especially the IMAX ride at the museum). It's entertaining to seem to be, for instance, in the ocean with fish swimming around and jellyfish coming toward you.

But in a lot of regular movies, I dislike it.

I'm not fond of 3D. It hurts my eyes, gives me a headache and then the tickets are pretty expensive and I'm cheap.

To elaborate further, I think 3D is a thinly veiled attempt at extortion by the movie studios. Here, pay four extra dollars for a movie ticket except the picture looks fuzzier and dimmer than it would if you didn't pay the four extra dollars! But you should totally pay the four extra dollars because IT JUMPS OUT OF THE SCREEN AT YOU. COOL RIGHT? GIVE US MONEYYYY

I think it really depends on the movie. Movies like Avatar, HtYD and Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Gah'oole. were AMAZING in 3D and I'm sad that now that I own them on dvd that I can't watch them in 3D anymore....

That being said, my theater often has one 3D movie playing at a time and a lot of the times it's the movie I wanted to see, but not in 3D. I took my friend to see Tangled and The Green Hornet (different times) and They just didn't work in 3D at all! The Green Hornet was just bland anyway, but they didn't shoot the film using 3D and it really didn't have anything that would NEED it.

I do not like paying nearly 4 dollars more at the box office just to see a movie in 3D, however, that part irritates me.
