Don't get me wrong, I liked the Wind Waker and Minish Cap. I liked the art and the style, and thought they worked well, I just like Twilight Princess better. From the concept art that came out a while ago:

http://static2.videogamer.com/videogamer/images/pub/large/zeldae309art.jpg

It looked like it was going to be more Twilight Princess or Majorah's Mask than Minish Cap. But, with Skyward Sword, we have neon colored mushrooms, for heaven's sake. Compare this to, say, Link's painful lycanthropy, or the possessed Zelda fight. Definitely a different tone altogether.

I am not saying it is automatically bad, but that I am a little disappointed that it didn't follow in the footsteps of the awesome Twilight Princess.

Well, maybe you should! D:< (Just kidding ;))And something he's not wearing any pant-like clothing. Sometimes it's just the tunic...

And pants under a tunic just look goofy! Especially poofy pants. :(

Not particularly impressed with the graphics, myself. But then again, it's not finished yet and you only get to see like twenty seconds of it, so...

Also it looked less like he was wearing pants and more like his legs got really really fat.

After looking up the longer presentation from E3 I'm more enthusiastic about this

I like the new look, its a nice balance between the slightly excessive cuteness of Wind Waker and the gloomy brownness of Twilight Princess.

The new items look neat, the new item menu system looks promising, and I'm really looking forward to that dash feature.

Link's pants (or lack thereof) were irrelevant until Ocarina of Time, since then I believe he has had some sort of pants or leggings at all times, also the image posted by Radical Dreamer was a sketch piece and only for marketing purposes.

But see, that's my major complaint.

I'm okay with the remote for say, stuff like aiming for bow shots, but I don't want to swing it around like an idiot just to attack. I bought the Gamecube version of Twilight Princess because I think remote swing = sword swing is horribly inaccurate and gimmicky. It's a poor implementation of motion controls.

Again, if we can use classic controller or Gamecube controller, I'm all for it! But from the trailers, it looks like there won't be that option, and they're going to push the motion controls regardless of how bad I think they are. Which is fine. I'm not saying Nintendo has to bow to my whims, I just won't be buying it. *shrug* I know they won't miss my purchase because this game will sell millions regardless, but I still feel the need to express my displeasure.

I played Twilight Princess for the Gamecube first. I didn't think it was great, but not terrible either. I was slightly confused when I played it on the Wii...Not only did they mirror Link to make him right handed, they mirrored all the maps. I guess for something like sword swinging, classic button pushing/mashing is the way to go?

Not necessarily; I feel like TWEWY's battle system, which made use of touch screen gestures, was a really good implementation for a gesture-based combat system and could be a model of how to pull of real-time combat and movement at the same time driven only by the touch screen.

And by driven only by the touch screen, I mean that the entire game is almost entirely touch screen based. Sometimes you use the D-pad, but otherwise, it's all touch screen gestures. Even the face buttons act as a D-pad for lefties.

It has a larger learning curve than normal, just because there's really nothing else like it, but once you get the hang of it, spamming gestures is just as natural as button mashing in any other game.

I am completely serious about this. o_o

Anyways, I am also really hoping that it'll look a lot better once they're done with it. I mean, I like the fact that the colors are brighter, and it looks less gloomy, but... I don't know. It still looks kind of choppy. But, if I remember correctly, so did TP in the early trailers.

Yeah but the difference is with touch screen, it's still accurate because you're directly interacting. Waggling a remote doesn't have that kind of direct control. You just have to HOPE that the system notices you're waggling the remote, and translate it. Or it can register a waggle when you're just adjusting your wrist or something. Plus there's the old problem of "I swing my sword and it gets blocked by the guy on screen but my arm keeps moving." Touch screens don't have that problem.

To be sure, I don't particularly like touch-screen interaction for action games either, but it is still far superior to motion controls, which I maintain have not been implemented well, at least not for games like Zelda.

It's going to take a while to get used to the Wii mote(especially since now I have to buy a Wii to get da new Zelda).

All I'm saying is they better not screw up the controls.

More on the controls and it seems Link will adopt a bit of an Indiana Jones touch to his adventures.

Well, that confirms it. I'm not buying it. :\

*sigh* I remember when I would get excited for new Zelda games and now it's like...Nintendo has done nothing but destroy my interest in the series. Now I know how Sonic fans have felt ever since Sonic Adventure (or to a lesser extent, ever since Sonic & Knuckles).

I guess Zelda is now officially dead to me. It was fun while it lasted, Nintendo. Thanks for all the memories...

Now I feel weird because I actually liked Sonic Adventure 2. >_>;

I don't know why I'm watching this thread because I don't have a Wii. XD But, I do think Nintendo is trying too hard, honestly. Though, maybe they are trying to shoot for a new demographic? More kids who like to swing around a wiimote and less serious gamers? I dunno.
Link's whip looks pretty crazy though. XD; And the graphics still make me happy.

Well, I mean, if you look at Nintendo's history, they're all about designing a console around whatever crazy thing Miyamoto has in mind for his games. I mean, that's the entire design philosophy behind the 64, Cube, and Wii controllers. And Miyamoto really likes motion control.

Like, if you ever find yourself thinking about what Nintendo could possibly be thinking when they do crazy thing x, you're really asking about what Miyamoto is thinking and has forced Nintendo to do.

[quote="goldenspines "]Now I feel weird because I actually liked Sonic Adventure 2. >_>]
I liked SA2. I didn't greatly enjoy it.

The Sonic/Shadow levels were totally awesome. Except there were also Knuckles and Rouge and Eggman and Tails levels that were all terrible. Especially Knuckles' levels because all the music in those levels was godawful.

Plus those stupid "Chase the President's car!" missions that were so bad I forgot they even existed until Fish reminded me of them.

If SA2 had been completely awesome Sonic/Shadow levels it would've been super awesome. As it is it was a few moments of awesomeness broken up by lame levels.

This game looks pretty good, but I don't think people should be complaining about the motion controls just yet, Nintendo is using the Motionplus thing for the game, and all the reviewers at E3 said it worked wonderfully, and followed the sword movements incredibly well (Unlike with the problems Miyamoto was having with it)

Also swinging the remote around randomly wont help you in this game apparently you will need to be precise, and use skill to even damage the enemies this time :wow!:
The random button mash fighting in the series before (Seriously the sword combo was basically always just hitting B several times over and over) seems to be completely gone, which is good this is how Twilight Princess should have been.

Also if you watched the trailer, the enemies seem to be taking off entire hearts of damage  people complaining about the motion controls are going to need to learn some skill if they want to get through the game it seems (Honestly I don't know how any of the anti Wii fanatics got through past Wii games if all they did was swing around wildly)
I don't think people should say "OH I'M NOT PLAYING THIS GAME BECAUSE IT'S ON THE WII!!!" since that's pretty narrow minded and they haven't even tried it yet :eh:

Also why are people complaining about Link having pants now? is the first commandment of Zelda games that "Link shall not wear anything but tights!" or something? I like the new pants, also since he lives on an island in the sky it sort of makes sense.

Also the graphics... I didn't really like them at first but they are starting to grow on me, also the producers say the reason the graphics look that way is because of the atmosphere in the sky, so perhaps when you go to the ground the graphics will be a bit different? whatever it is, they also said that they will be fine tuning the graphics a lot more for the game, before it comes out.

Also I was kind of annoyed that they didn't show Pikmin 3 (Pikmin 2 came out in 2004, come on!!!!) but in one of the interviews at E3 they said they are working on Pikmin 3, but they didn't show it, since it would distract people from the main attractions :dizzy:
Well at least I know they are working on it!

I'm not saying I won't play it because it's on the Wii. That'd be silly considering I own one, and I kind of want games for it. :p I'm saying I won't play it because it has motion controls. That's the difference.

And I'm not even saying I won't play it because it has motion controls. I'm saying I won't play it because it does not have the option to NOT use motion controls. If I could use a Gamecube or Classic controller, and everyone else could still use the remote, I'd be cool with that! But they want to force me to use the wagglan', and I'm not cool with that.
Also why are people complaining about Link having pants now?

Wait people are complaining about Link having pants now? Why didn't they complain about it in Twilight Princess? @.@

<_< Maybe I'm the only one primarily concerned about the story, but...I really really REALLY REALLY want this new Zelda to have a good story. I want big, I want epic, I want destiny and Triforces and princesses in danger and Hero of Time and all that good stuff. I want another Ocarina of Time. Not that it has to be exactly like OoT, and not that Twilight Princess wasn't epic enough. But TP somehow felt less epic, possibly because there was less talk about destiny and the power of the Triforce, it seemed. Zelda is supposed to be a fairy tale come to life, and I would so like to see that great fairy tale quality in this new game. It looks promising, since Adult Link is usually accompanied by a more epic storyline, but...I'm just concerned about that. And the music, too. I want something to make my heart ache like Gerudo Valley again :waah!:

I remember all (literally all) of the musical tracks from every Zelda from LttP (THE BEST) to Majora's Mask. I remember MOST of Wind Waker. I can't remember a single track from TP except the Kakariko Village them (which I didn't like).

Wow, the music in TP really did suck now that I think about it. OH WAIT. The Hidden Village music. I remember that one. It was awesome. The music still sucked aside from that one track though.
