Well, what kind of manga do you like (shoujo, shonen, ect)? That'll help us out alot in referring you to something you like.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I also suggest the Trigun Manga. If you have seen the anime - or even portions of it - I think you'll like it. Basically, Trigun is a spaghetti-western: humorous with loads of action and innocence mixed in.

DNAngel was recently released. From what I have heard it is pretty tame (i.e. parent friendly) but you may want to research before purchasing. I have yet to check it out so I cannot give a yay/nay.

Galaxy Angel is a cooky romp through outer space with five beautiful Angel Troup pilots. It's quirky, more of an updated Irresponsible Captain Tylor with an idiot-savant captain in charge of a fleet. The only problem is Volume 1 is the only one out. Be warned: it jumps around quite a bit, so if you cannot follow something that's jumpy, don't get it.

I don't know much about the series personally, but the manga review site I work for gave GREAT reviews to Excel Saga. Check that one out.

I think lots of peeps at CAA like the .hack//Legend of the Twilight mangas.

InuYasha is pretty decent, I might add.

Hrmmm... *ponders* One Piece, El Hazard, Pet Shop of Horrors, Fruits Basket (HIGHLY recommended by many here at CAA, Ashley included), Zodiac P.I., and anything by Yu Watase (Fushigi Yugi, Alice 19th, etc.) come to mind.

I hope that helps! :thumb:

You could consider DN Angel...I love this manga--Niwa Daisuke is a rather normal, nothing-really-special kind of 14 year old boy who has a crush on Harada Risa, his classmate. Risa doesn't think of him as more than just a friend. Daisuke is thus rejected right on his 14th birthday, and to make matters worse, finds out that he turns into the legendary phantom thief Dark Mousy whenever he feels emotions of love.

Saiyuki is really good...if your parents wouldn't flip about adult language/content...^^'''ehehehe...essp. since Gojyo's a pervert...lol XD Kind of like Miroku...except a little worse. Then there's the swearing...which is pretty bad...not as bad as in the anime, but still~ anyway, its plot is one of the old chinese or japanese legend...a great evil is being revived, and sanzo, a priest, goku, a monkey god, goyjo, a water demon, and hakkai must venture TO THE WEST! in order to stop the revival of 'the great Gyumaoh~!' ^^'

Canidate for Godess, Alice 19th, and Fruits Basket....
Canidate for Godess..have you ever seen the show Pilot Canidate? It used to play on CN way back when...well, Canidate of Godess is Pilot Canidate..^^
Alice 19th....aah another one of Yu Watase's masterpieces...XD
Anywho, I agree with Staci; Alice 19th and Fruits Basket are good, and i recomend them as well...

.hack//legend of twilight is also good...^_^ similar to .hack/sign except different chars and plot. ^___^''' Personally, I like this better than .hack/sign because I like the characters better, and the story seems easier to follow...

Pita Ten is good too....on the cute side, with chibi-style characters...Its a slightly random manga--sort of like azumanga daioh except...not as random...XDD

Shaman King, Jing:King of Bandits, and Full Metal Panic I think are good manga for action/comedy...I would give a background about each of these, but I wouldn't knwo where to start...^^''

Also, any CLAMP manga is good...Like Angelic Layer, Tokyo Babylon, and Magic Knight Rayearth. CardCaptor Sakura is good, if you read the translated english, since in the Japanese version, there are two guys that are gay...ANYway........>_>

I think one manga that's coming out in May, that you could consider is Chrno Crusade...I have heard a lot about it, and from what I know, it is about a demon boy named chrno and a nun named sister rosette. All i know is that its a romance novel...obviously between Chrno and Rosette.....

Hikaru no GO is also good~!!! It is about a boy and a spirit who lives inside him, and together they play an ancient game called Go. Its a game manga, meaniung it revolves around a certain game throughout, in this case--Go.

Yeah, I'd say Alice the 19th or Fruit Basket. They both Rock!

Just a note about this series, It's great but as far as the gay thing. Well, Regardless of what they SAY in the manga, you can tell they're gay. That aspect of this thing sorta weirded me out. Just thought you might want to know.

STAY AWAY FROM LOVE HINA hehe...

Try Azumanga Daioh (full of innocent, random fun with only a bit of language), Gatekeepers (I luv the art), and Chobits has bit of nudity and language but it's got a good story.

And if you like Anime try anything by Yoshitoshi ABe...Haibane Renmei comes to mind.

Have fun...YAY!

Regarding what Staci said about Excel Saga, do check it out. Things your parents might object to are potential (never realized, but always there) cruelty to animals, sickness played for laughs, a little foul language*, and Lord Il Palazzo's rant at Christmas.

Also, if no one else has mentioned it, look at Megatokyo.com. Funny stuff.

*In volume 4, there is one instance of brief, harsh language, but it is a rare exception.

Although I've only read with it the first volume two weeks ago, Hayao Miyazaki's "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind" is a very good read, I must say. But it's heavy going at place so it's not what I'd call "a light read". I also read "Ruorini Kenshin vol 1" which I must admit is excellent!

Oh, yeah! Nausicaa's a good one.

DragonBall is good. Kind of strange but entertaining...though Master Roshi is more than a little too old to be flirting with Bulma (he gets a pounding every time he does though, heh). No nudity as far as I've seen either. 'Tis rated T or A (for All Ages)
Heart of Sword's Rhapsody

Money, get away
Get a good job with good pay and you're okay
And all and all you're just another brick in the wall
Shoutin’ in the street gonna take on the world some day
But Bismallah will not let me go
Because I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

Tommy used to work on the docks
Union's been on strike
Bright eyes burning like fire
And exposing every weakness
However carefully hidden by the kids

Who will love a little Sparrow
Who's traveled far and cries for rest
Spare him his life from this monstrosity

I've seen a million faces and I've rocked them all
And if the band youre in starts playing different tunes
We will we will rock you
We will we will rock you!

There is female nudity in at least Volume 1 of DragonBall, as well as a fair amount of perverted humur.
It does well earn its T rating.

Note that there was edited versions of the first three DragonBall volumes released a few years back that edited out the nudity. However, due to fan petitions/complaints, they changed back to the original versions and thus the edited versions wouldn't be available anywhere outside libraries and perhaps used bookstores.
