Echoing Ich, I tend to favor the characters writing the story. Originally my novel started as X chapters through X characters perspective, changing each chapter. However, some characters are clearly distinguishing themselves as more main than the others, entirely by virtue of their personalities and the roles they've written for themselves (though I'll admit that I've necessarily limited some of them).uc pseudonym (post: 1354545) wrote:Would you care to say more about that specifically when you have the opportunity? I have read more than a few authors say similar things and always wondered if it is a difference in writing style, or just a manner of speaking.
Part of it probably comes down to priorities. Generally, I consider myself a character author; I write the characters, and they tell the story. From what I gather, UC, you seem to border more on a plot author; you have a set story in mind, and that itself provides you with the cast you require. It's more likely that you'd tweak the characters to fit your narrative structure, while Ich and I alter our stories to fit their respective populations.
