About to buy manga...need advice fast

Postby TrigunX89 » Mon Apr 19, 2004 5:01 pm

Hey, everyone! I'm might go buy a couple graphic novels later, if my dad can take me. I can't seem to decide though. I'm also wondering about the content. Right now, Ranma 1/2, Hellsing, and FLCL come to mind. Any opinions would be appreciated, before I go to the bookstore. Also, if you have other recommendations instead, that would be cool. I don't have too many mangas. Just some Naruto, One Piece, Trigun, Rangarok, Cowboy Bebop Shooting Star, and Rurouni Kenshin.

If no one answers, no big deal. In that case, I'll probably just get Ruroken vol. 3 and Naruto vol. 3.

Thanks!

Well I would go for the Shonen Jump graphic novels 'cause they're cheaper, but that's just me... I've never read Ranma, FLCL or Hellsing, so I can't help ya there. Sorry I'm not very helpful. u.u;;

That's OK, thanks for your opinion!

Edit: I think I've decided against Hellsing after reading the review for the anime on this site. Probably a bit too violent for me... And Ranma sounds like it has a lot of nudity... Still considering some others though. I'll probably go to the store in about an hour.

well if it's not too late, the other Cowboy Bebop titles are very good as well. D.N. Angel is good from the first volume if you want a little comedy. If you're into fantasy, Magic Knights Rayearth is pretty good and if I remember right totally clean. For a good shojou comedy/romance, Fruits Basket is definately good as well. Hmm...I can't think of anything else you might like, other than perhaps some Gundam Wing.

Cool, thanks! I still haven't gone yet. I'm open to all suggestions. :)

Edit: Well, I just decided to play it safe this time with Naruto and Rurouni Kenshin. Maybe I'll get something new next time. Thanks again, to both of you.

I've got both FLCL mangas and I highly recommend them. Just don't expect to understand them. ;)
Think happy thoughts.

Thanks, guys!

I might get the FLCL manga soon. The anime didn't make sense either, until I saw the whole thing through. And then, it was like, "wow." It all suddenly made sense. I've heard the manga has more sexual content though. How bad is it?

I do have vol1 of FLCL and personally I don't plan on getting anymore. I liked the anime, the fact that nothing makes much sense no matter how many times you watch it is great but I don't care for the manga at all. I know this isn't very helpful and all, sorry about that. Just my own opinion.
"Tell me not, in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream!
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
and things are not what they seem.
Life is real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal;
Dust thou art; to dust returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul."
