Outside of my Top 11 list, Attack of the Monsters (a.k.a. Gamera vs. Guillon). Meat Lover's Pizza, a Guinness and a Gamera movie. What, I ask you, could be better?

Well, there was that time I went to see Coraline at the Aurora Cinema Grill and ordered hot wings. That was just a superb outing filled with visceral, but innocent pleasures. As far as your top 11 list goes, it helps to number the films so people know whether or not it is on the list. It also helps us to keep track of your progress.

Saw Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus at a friend's house. It was shockingly lame for a B movie. I mean, it's Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus, go wild! But it was pretty boring and the monsters were barely there (and we missed the infamous shark-attacks-a-jet-plane scene).

The theatrical or director's cut? I've only see the theatrical cut but I heard the director's cut is much better.

The movie "Joseph", notable for starring Ben Kingsley.

It's basically the story of Joseph, but slightly modernized so that we can understand it with more ease. Had a bit of ooh-la-la going on in the middle, and the story of Joseph is slightly altered, but it's a pleasure to watch.

By oooh-la-la, do you mean sex? I think I've seen that version. There's a certain amount of artistic licence Holywood takes when it comes to adapting Biblical stories.

Yes. Thankfully, it's not really in terms of some kind of Bible porn I'm talking about, but it has scenes where things get a bit suggestive (two rape scenes, one prostitution scene).

It was a satisfying movie nonetheless. To stay on topic, I now also watched "Pilgrim's Progress: Journey to Heaven."

REVIEW:
The acting wasn't really the greatest yet. Notably, I'd say that Pickthank had a very annoying way of acting, Atheist was a bit TOO condescending, and Christian's wife needed a bit more emotion.

I loved Giant Despair, though. He was a very hilarious character with that sadistic tone. The acting was a bigger relief, and I liked how he abused Christian and Hopeful like poor little kitties.

The special effects was hard to believe, and most of the time, I looked at this empty void of a forest for backstages, so I think overall that mostly the acting, stages, and the special effects could use some work. The story could probably have been made a bit less linear, too. I think it may have been this movie that didn't make me look at the real book with a better thought.
I watched Appaloosa yesterday. It could have been better, but it was a decent watch....though, I'd rather watch a Leone western any day.

How to Commit Marriage

Humorous but not uproarious.

Inkheart

Movie was ok. Made me interested in reading the book, though.

The Importance of Being Earnest

Quite humorous. I have meant to read the book for quite a while but never got around to it. The movie is a good substitute, for now.

I saw another not-so-great western tonight.....this time, "Sukiyaki Western Django".
The best way I can summarize it is a bunch of Japanese people trying to talk English (the language is English, I needed subtitles), dressed as cowboys, shooting people for gold. It was confusing. Stylistically is was good....but the movie itself just didn't cut it. Oh yeah, I couldn't understand Quentin Tarantino either. And what the heck was with that comment about being an "anime otaku" in the old west? Weeeeeeeird stuff.

So I just got back from the theater where I watched Inglorious Basterds. I honestly didn't have that much interest in it, but my mom wanted to see it, so I went with her.

Despite the fact that I didn't have much of an interest in it before I saw it, I ended up really liking the movie. Though to be honest, I almost felt like the Basterds ultimately didn't even need to be in it. They're almost a side-story to the main plot, about a Jewish girl who escaped from the house where her family was hiding and later murdered, and her plans for revenge on the Nazis.

I'd say about 70% of the movie was subtitled, since the characters were mostly speaking French and German (and a bit of Italian too), which of course didn't bother me at all, but I wonder how many people going in expecting a bloody gorefest were turned off by this.

I heard a lot of complaints about the movie being too long, that some scenes dragged. I didn't think there were any scenes that dragged, except for one, the part where Shoshanna is getting ready for the night of her revenge, with some really (in my opinion) unfitting music, but that's probably standard for Tarantino.

So anyway I really enjoyed it. I was surprised that the movie is literally nothing like the trailers made it look. And oh yeah, Christopher Waltz is absolutely amazing as Hans Landa of the SS.

I've been really dragging through my "Top 11" idea. I'm not as enthusiastic about watching movies when I feel like I have to do it. So as an update:
10. This Is Spinal Tap
9. King Kong vs. Godzilla

I'd say about 70%]

Dude. Bowie's "Cat People" during Shosanna getting ready for her revenge was awesome. :|

The thing about the Basterds seeming kind of superfluous is two-fold...he's making a prequel that will go more into the Basterds themselves, but also, I think that was just Tarantino trying to ape the sort of disjointed plots of spaghetti westerns (this is going by my dad's insight, who has watched many spaghetti westerns, not my own, so if I've misunderstood something, then that's why) by giving us these characters who are really cool and nothing else. Little character development, no history...they're just there. We know why they're there, but we have no idea how they got there.

At least, that was my take on it. Tarantino has made some really complex films in the past, so I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and say that his doing it that way was intentional.

I love it, though. I've seen it three times since it came out. XD

I watched Return to Oz last night. I can see why people don't like it, but they're dumb. XD It's not supposed to be a sequel to the 1939 film. It's based on the books and therefore has a completely different feel. Overall I thought it was pretty good; there were some really creative visuals.

I came back from seeing Inglorious B-tards (if anyone can remember the last time I typed that XD) and it was interesting and well acted. The blood and gore aspect is a little over-the-top in my opinion but I would assume to the conditions of the era back then...it was kind of a bloody generation. It anyone agrees or disagrees with me about it, I welcome it. :)

The only thing that disturbed me was this...there were two children sitting in the front row watching this explicit movie...with their parents nowhere to be found...yeah not good.

Tarentino has an..."interesting"...way of presenting his thoughts to film.

Overall I thought it was pretty good] Right, as one of Henry Selick's early works, Return to Oz was not his finest hour, but it definitely shows a lot of the potential seen in his later films. If anything, the atmosphere of Gothic ruin and disillusionment as applied to the stabilizing norm of a colorful and mostly safe fantasy world prevented it from becoming a classic. Also, Dorothy's new companions are cool, but don't have the charisma of the old bunch, so it's not as much fun.

9

It was... strange. It had a lot of classic horror elements but the characters didn't really allow it to capitalize on the nearly constant peril. Worst, though, was the really bizarre world mechanics which initially seem plausible but get strange and vaguely spiritual at the end. I would say that its current score on Rotten Tomatoes, 60%, is about fair.

Just got back from watching 9.

Personally, I didn't think that the movie made very much sense, especially the ending. The animation was great, the characters had a certain sense of charisma, although there was little character development, but the plot was just bizarre.

Also, I really, really, hope that in the future we know better than to make A.I with glowing red eyes.

I've started watching the second live-action Death Note movie, Death Note: The Last Name. Pretty sweet so far. They did a pretty good job of quickly summing up the events in the previous movie in the intro, then jumping right into the action. Light looks weird in a suit, I've discovered. I think it's because of his shaggy hair. Makes him just look strange somehow. L is awesome as ever; I was so glad they kept in the falling-off-the-chair part. And the part where he meets Misa-Misa.
