...This one Detective Conan GBA game in middle school.

There was this one level with this CREEPY BLOODY SURGEON WHO WAS TRYING TO KILL CONAN or something and you had to ride around on your skateboard and avoid him and YEAH and the surgeon guy gave me nightmares so I never beat it.

Actually, I'm sure the game would have been pretty easy if I could just read Japanese and figure out what to do...

Has anyone played Eversion? It's a freeware game. I can't play it because I have a mac, but it looks terrifying. It's more fun if you don't ahead of what's going to happen.

Eversion is a good game. Hardly the most difficult though, excepting level 7.

And to my earlier post on Bunny Must Die, I have to retract that. It isn't the most difficult game I have probably played, it just has a painfully high learning curve. Once you get the hang of things, the game is comparably much smoother.

Disgaea DS is an extremely punishing game. You'll fight a boss battle for 15-30 minutes and get down to your last character and the boss. The boss will have just enough health to survive and kill your final character...commence extreme frustration. Fun game though ^_^.

Another is Mystical ninja for the original Gameboy. It is just so freaking hard!

I am definitely having to go with the oldshcool NES Contra. Without the precious ^^vv<><>abab[START] this game is frustratingly hard.

Most 2D Megaman games are also rather difficult until you have played the levels a few times and know what to expect.
Depend on it. God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply. He is too wise a God to frustrate His purposes for lack of funds, and He can just as easily supply them ahead of time as afterwards, and He much prefers doing so.

I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

Aargh. Cave Story get's really hard. I'm at the final boss (at least I think so...). Gotta love that game though.

Now, these are not the hardest games around, but if you combine skill, difficulty and fun then you pretty much get the Jak and Daxter series. Now, the third edition was not as hard as the second, mostly because they fixed quite a few things. However, you won't neccicarily breeze through it. It hits the difficulty curve right on if you ask me.

Mystery Quest. Hands Down, I could never jump over the stupid little water pit at one point and kept drowning... why couldn't the character swim?

Oh finally thought of one... Solar Jetman for the NES... it was piece of crap game and insanely annoying. I remember once my brother managed to get pretty far into it but fell way short of the 21 level (it had like 21 levels or 12) either way he only made it like halfway once.

I don't even think I made it past the third level. You fly this little spaceship around and had to pick up pieces of your ship so you could fly home or something. Anyway they had this little anti gravity thing going on so when you boost you zoom way off and if you turn the boosts off you keep flying over till you boost in another direction. But with all the small places you had to navigate and all the bad guys that shoot at you, it was insanely annoying. You're either hitting the wall or getting shot. And you only got like 3 lives and then you start all over. I think there was a passcode feature but I don't remember getting really far with it. Anyway stupid game and fricken hard.

I'd say Kingdom Hearts 1&2, if you count all the challenges, hidden bosses, ect. (See: Sephiroth).

Ookami, an amazing game, was quite easy except for a few parts. At first I didn't think much of them since they were optional mini games (to get upgrades, if you wanted them). So they could be attempted repeatedly or forgotten. However, the last "dungeon" in the game went completely crazy--all of a sudden, everything was trying to kill you and/or blow up in your face, with no breaks in between. It was quite strange.

Castlevania is also one of my favourite series. I've had difficulty completing every single game I've played to date. The two games I've played for the PS2 were particularly challenging. I think it has to do with the fact that the game gives no clues (even if it tries) as to how to obtain certain items or beat the bosses. The health, power, item and money systems in these games are also slightly "realistic", meaning you can't really take advantage of them.

For example, in Curse of Darkness, the character is only able to carry five potions and two high potions. By the end of the game, this gave me some worries, considering (1) they are expensive, and money is scarce, (2) the potions at this point do not recover much of your health, (3) the bosses are on steroids and caffeine.

After finally beating it...I have to add Looney Tunes for the GB to my list...mostly because of the games tendency to randomly damage you even when you clearly jumped on an enemy in a way that should only damage them and not you...to make matters worse I played this game as a kid and only now have I been able to beat it...and that's only because of save states...yeah I can't even brag that I beat the game because I had to cheat in order to do it.

Y'all are going to laugh at me, but Super Mario Bros. for the NES is one game that I have never been able to beat. I can get to World 8-2 easily, but die every time --either the bullets get me or I fall into the giant hole you have to jump over.

Another game that I can almost beat, but not quite, is The Lion King for the Sega Genesis. I can get to the next to last level (where you go into caves and fight hyenas), but die every time. So frustrating.

The only games that I have beaten successfully have been Kirby's Adventure for the NES, Pokemon for GB, and Toy Story for the Sega Genesis (though I had to cheat).

Ah yes, Lion King... that was pretty difficult. For me the hardest level was the second level where you had to jump on the giraffe's heads and then ride the ostrich. After that it wasn't too bad. I wanna say there was also another level that was pretty difficult but I don't remember what it was.

And Scar was pretty hard too. Mostly cause I don't think he had health, you had to fling him over the edge and if you weren't by the edge when he got all tired out, you'd just throw him and he'd get back up and you'd have to do it again. Took forever.

Well, my hopes haven't gone down for it just because it's hard.

I mean, the intro alone makes me break out into fits of laughter.

I agree... I'm waiting for an F-Zero game to come out on the wii... F-Zero GC wasn't that hard if you keep at it. Sure at first it's like "What the crap??" But once you get used to the controls, it handles very well. Some of the best handling in a racing game and actually made you feel like you were going fast as opposed to most where you're going top speed and even though the gauge says "230 mph" you don't feel you're going any faster than 40.

Perfect Cherry blossom made my day, genius game since even though it is a bullet hell game, your character has a relatively small 'vital' point. So you are hard to hit, even though you can have several hundred bullets approaching you.

What's funny is that I actually remember beating Lion King, but the fight with Scar was annoying... Getting Simba to do the strong attack rather than the cool-looking, but worthless weaker attack was a huge pain... That last battle was ruined by bad controls more than by any legitimate difficulty issue.

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops - one of the most horrid handheld games ever. The saves are faulty, controls are hard, and downright tedious making it pretty hard.

eXceeD 3rd Jade Penetrate - the funnest game i couldn't beat on hard.
