twelfth kingdom? hibane renmei? last exile?

Postby olorc » Mon Mar 01, 2004 7:31 am

has anyone seen twelfth kingdom, hibane renmei, or the last exile? Based on secular sources (namely animerica and newtype) they seem clean of nudity or sexual content. Has anyone seen these animes? What are your oppinions?

Haibane Renmei is neato burrito. I have a winamp skin of Rekki. It's spiffy. ^_^

My best friend has seen Last Exile series.

Postby iamneo19 » Mon Mar 01, 2004 11:46 am

My best friend, Avery Toves, has the Last Exile series to own. He watches them incessantly. No sexual references, but I'm not sure about the violence aspect (frankly, I couldn't care less about the blood. I just don't like the "sex" in anime.) Anyways, great story and plot, awesome action, and killer animation. Good stuff! The others you asked about, I'd leave up to others to explain about. Haven't even heard of them before you mentioned them.

Neo

I meant the twelve kingdoms

Postby olorc » Mon Mar 01, 2004 1:56 pm

I meant the twelve kingdoms Sorry for the misspelling. Animerica said it was amazing. I am not as concerned about the violence but i can't stand needless sex and nudity in anime. It really wrecks it. Thanks to those who've posted so far. If anyone has seen these 3 titles it would be good to hear you oppinion of them. :hits_self

I don't know anything about the others, but I've seen what's available of Last Exile and it's great! The swearing is very minor, not much violence (and of that, nothing gory) and no sexual content (the closest to it is a kinda low-cut dress, but it's no big deal). The story really drew me into it and I'm bummed out that I can't see more! *cries*

I have the first two volumes of Last Exile that have been released. In fact, my son and I were watching it last night. Great story, animation, love the Irish influence in the music. As has been stated, very little if any objectionable material. I highly recommend it.

Haibane Renmei is amazing! it is clean of nudity and innuendo but volume 1 has some violence and blood when rakka sprouts her wings (see my avatar for reference).

Haibane Renmei is a superb series, and is quite clean for the most part. There is a decent amount of the word that describes what beaver's build, and some intriguing, yet incorrect philisophical views, but I loved the series enough to own all of the DVD's, and that's the only series that I have in it's entirety. Warning though: if you can't take slow drama, don't watch this. There is practically no action at all, and it is a drama. But, if you enjoy this kind of anime, I highly recommend.

As to the others, I haven't seen them, but want to see both of them. So thanks for posting this, so I can read more about them. There is a thread somewhere around here on the Last Exile, if you want to dig a bit. Twelve Kingdoms isn't quite as popular here, but there are some who have seen it. Later!

I've only seen the first episode of The Twelve Kingdoms, so I can't speak for the entire series. I will say I found the first episode interesting enough - it was pure fantasy, and the art style was unique. That's all I know, though.

I watched Haibane Renmei...a slow series but if you're patient it really pays off...master storytelling right there...like Kokhiri it's the only series I shelled out my money for, b/c I'm pretty much too poor to foster my anime endeavors lol...

Haven't seen Twelve Kingdoms or Last Exile...but I saw a preview of Last Exile and the art looks amazing...I need to see if any of my friends have it so I can borrow...thanks for reminding me

As you can see by my user name and my avatar... I LOVE Haibane Renmei.

As stated before, it's not an action series. If you like your typical action anime and are easily bored by in-depth drama, you won't like it, but, if you're like me and are more interested in character development and an interesting world-setting than in anything else, you'll love it. It's a fantasy/drama.. that's the genre I'd stick it in.

The only nudity in the series is in the opening and ending themes, but you really don't see anything. The opening theme has Rakka kind of floating through bubbles and the end theme has her spinning around... nude, but in both instances, she's got her knees hugged up to her and you don't see a darn thing. It's not meant to be sexual at all... I think it is to express her emotinal vunerability and her status of being born into this strange new world - all hunched up in a fetal position.

Then, in the first episode and in a couple of the middle and end episodes, there's a little blood. The first episode has Raka bursting out her wings, which might be a little scary for youngsters if you are watching it with children, or might frighten you if you are easily startled. Then, in later episodes, there are flashbacks to Reki's past... where she was born and had bloody wings, and a Haibane boy named Hyohko getting hurt.

Both Reki and Kana use the "D" word on occasion.

But... that's it. The story has nothing of violence (or so little as to not be even considered as such, and it's not from people hurting each other, anyway), and absolutely nothing of sex. Very, very clean anime, and an ABSOLUTELY MAREVELOUS story.

Well, that is, if you like heavy drama and don't need much action to be entertained. I'm a drama queen. I eat up stories with heavy drama, so I personally loved it.

I've seen all of Twelve Kingdoms and thoroughly enjoyed it. It has some violence, with blood, and that's the only thing I remember. The tone gets very moody, psychologically. There is mainly an inner struggle with the main character. She has to overcome her fears and embrace the fact she is who she is. I don't want to give anything away, but I really enjoyed the psychological development.

The three anime you mentioned I would recommend to anyone. They are all high quality; in that I mean, they have developed characters, strong story, and little violence, no language, and no sexual innuendo or nudity. The Last Exile I've only seen the first two discs, like Rev. Doc. I agree with his summation. Haibane Renmai, I've yet to watch the last disc, which I own. The only one I've seen in it's entirety is Twelve Kingdoms. I really need to watch it again. The characters are just so great in this. It's very unique fantasy, as well. Beautiful artwork. So much of it is enjoyable and I've noticed it really didn't get much attention. I'd definitely say it's a sleeper of some of the best out there. Anime Works put it together and they're the ones who did Rurouni Kenshin. This is probably their best title since RK.

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.
