My mom is bothered by stuff, like language. She really doesn't like cursing. She says it bothers her that I really don't mind it. I'm wondering...my pastor and my mom say that you need to be serious about nearly everything. They are extremely intolerant of stuff. I'm wondering...can we really decide about somethings like this?

I'm starting to worry whether they are right and we (the CAA) are wrong, or atleast slightly incorrect in our beliefs...or is it vice versa...can someone explain? I haven't read much of the Bible about rules and such, but I know ALOT of the stories.

What exactly are you asking here? I don't understand.

Edit: *reads your post again* Ummm...well, as far as the swearing thing goes, I think it's part personal conviction. However, if someone doesn't have a problem with swearing, they shouldn't be so careless as to swear in front of young Christians or people who have a swearing problem...we're not supposed to make someone else stumble.

...but I still don't fully understand what you're asking here.

No, no...I'm not talking about swearing. I mean that she doesn't like swearing in anime and stuff...I can't stand cursing, myself. But so long as f, and gd aren't used, I can tolerate watching it in an anime.

I try not to curse. Not always easy since I spent 16yrs getting the habit of it :S

I tend to not let it bother me so much, I can't control other ppl and what they do. Especially non-Christians swearing. I have a lot of unsaved friends who swear a lot.
I'm ok with it in moderation. But when it's every other word/sentence I say something to them.

Someone taking God's name in vain I have ZERO toleration for.

Biblically speaking when it mentions swearing it's about oaths and promises, not about swearing. But it does say in James 3: 8-12

"But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. 11 Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening? 12 Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh. "

Hey, I think you and I are in the same boat, Destroyer2000. I'm not perturbed about cussing in movies (unless, like others said, it's in every other sentence to the point where it's just stupid) or in manga. And I live in a household where "butt" is a bad word. (That's posterior to you, kid. (just kidding! XD))

But here's my thought on it, and if someone thinks I'm wrong please tell me. Curses.. are just words. It's the intention behind the word that makes it bad. You can call someone a banana and it could be bad. Also, in English as in any other language, there are formal and informal ways of talking. If you're talking to a stranger, parent, boss, young child, etc. you're not gonna speak to them the same way you do to your friends and siblings.

I'm not saying that I think cussing is ok. I'm just saying that if you're alone in your house and you stub your toe on something and cuss, it's different than calling someone a name or using language to impress/intimidate. Language is an iffy subject. Not so long ago, words that are considered bad today had no negative connotation at all.

Even if cussing doesn't always bother me, I cringe to hear God's name used in vain, especially Jesus.

"Crapper" used to be the name of the toilet, named after the inventer of it. Scociety of curse dubbed it a bad word. the s word and the b word have real meanings and used to be said all the time. the other b word is ion the bible and in the dictionary. heh my uncle called abortion docters the "B* of scociety" and got banned for life from crosswalks.
the only one that really should be considered a bad word is the F word. its verberl Pornagrophy.
I guess its just better to go along with society in some instantses, because those words today of lewd or crued meanings (and its better then being a reject). THey got perveted over time, and were rendered obsolite.
... i forgot what else i was gonna say....

*twitch* Dangerous topic... :eh:

Seriously, kenchii started this a long time ago, and it ended up being closed. Anyone can do research to see how I stand on this issue. I don't need to rehash it here. (plus, you'll see a good portion of it on my journal... Just look for the entry about "cursing")

It's a really dangerous topic and I don't think any good will come of it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=evcNPfZlrZs Watch this movie なう。 It's legal, free... And it's more than its premise. It's not saying Fast Food is good food. Just watch it.
