Trigun and Trigun Maximum

Postby wiggins » Fri Feb 27, 2004 12:06 pm

Hi guys!
OK, before you guys scream read the threads alreay made, let me say I did read them, and this is just to clarify some things:

There is not yaoi/yuri/hentai content right?
There is no nudity right?
There is no anti-Christian elements in it right?
The only objectional thing present could be graphicness and violence, right?

Thanks! I know these were answered in the other thread, but I want to reaffirm. Please don't think that I haven't read the threads. They were long and I really did read through them. Thanks again!

Could someone please answer this thread? O yeah and 1 more thing. I can't remember if this was in the other thread, but what's the difference between the two?

wiggins...if you did read through them, and you know what was said, what makes you think that things have changed since then? Also, are you talking about JUST the manga, or the anime also? If it's the manga: yes. There is nudity - the plants
Knives and Vash excepted
are naked. There is quite a bit of violence, especially the variation on the cafe (Legato) scene, where
Legato forces one guy to rip his own heart out. Also, Vash spends a great deal of volume 2 with one arm severed.
I can't speak for Maximum, since I only own one and it happens to be #3 (also it's in Japanese). I would guess it was along the same lines.

In short, if your convictions are easily offended, pass it over. It will probably bother you.

EDIT: The difference between Trigun - anime and Trigun manga: the anime comes up to a clear halt, which has nothing to do with the story of the manga. They're entirely different after a point. Maximum is the continuation of Trigun the manga. (I can't tell you any more than that, I'm sure someone knows more about it than I)

People who write below their abilities in order to crank out tons of books and make a buck. Especially Christian authors who do that. Outsiders judge us for it, and make fun of us for it, and it makes Jesus look bad. We of all artists on earth should be the most concerned with doing our best possible work at all times. We of all people should write with all our hearts, as if writing for the Lord and not for men.

Not that I think something's changed, but that I was unclear about it... I needed to re-afffirm. I must admit that I read it like one and a half months ago...and I didn't want to read it all over again. Yeah...I'm sorry...that's a really selfish reason...sorry guys. However I do have a legitimate question:Is there any anti-Christian oF anti-Jesus or anti-God elements in it? From what you've confirmed for me, I think I will get it, I only need to know about the above question which I feel wasn't really addressed there. There was alot about individual characters like wolfwood and knives and their relationships with other characters if I remember right...I can tolerate some magic, violence is fine, graphicness, depends on what it is (if it is real, fine), and I heard the nudity in the plants is undetailed... However, if they have images like that one image in Akira which gave me a scare for a few nights running where the guys turns into this expanding squichy thing with his internal organs all over the place...I may have a problem with it. Does it have stuff like that?

Could you please elaborate on what you mean by this? Thanks!

From what I understand, there is no difference. What I've heard is that after Volume 2, Nightow switched publishers, but the old publisher still held the rights to the name, so he had to change it.

Isn't there a more 'Elton John' nature to Legato and Knives realtionship?

Sponge.. I think that's probably your opinion only. You are probably reading too much into things. This reminds me of the Rocketshippers in old Pokemon fandom. They'd watch the anime and point out every little thing that meant nothing to make it seem like Jessie (Mushashi) and James (Kojiro) were in love - picking out one panel of something, or one word someone said that, when taken realistically, means nothing, or most probably means nothing... then twist it into something romantic or sexual.

I had my fill of Rocketshippers... -_- I reached annoyance threshold on them real quick, therefore, I have little paitience for people who do the same things for other anime simply to justify a relationship that is not expressed that they just happen to like.

And, at least for anime... stop shaking your head! *bops shaking head* I like Wolfwood x Milly, and, it's cannon in the anime (if not the manga), whether you like it or not. ^_^;

Seriously... read "Lord of the Rings". There's tons of things in it that people in this modern day would see as "proof" of a Frodo/Sam romance - when there really isn't one at all. Theirs is a comeraderie, a best-friendship. Sam marries Rosie. That is expressed. Anything Sam/Frodo would be implied, at best, and what people take as implication in our modern American culture really wasn't what I think the author had in mind.

I think I feel the same way about Trigun. I HATE V/W... I just hate it, and see it as very out of character. I haven't read much of the manga yet, but it seems to me, by your decription, that you're just doing old skool Rocketshipper "twisted logic" , creating a romance based upon one word or one picture that can be taken in a variety of ways, including *gasp!* NON-ROMANTICALLY!

To get this out in the open right now, this site is very anti-yaoi and not very tolerant of such views. Homosexuality itself is another whole can of worms that, if anyone feels inclined to ask our opinions on, can be found in the FAQs under "About Us". I bring this up to say to be careful, Sponge...you are treading thin ice here. Any pro-yaoi pics, links, etc. will be snipped.

A person who shall not be named informed me over IM of the meaning of your name, too... "Sponge". I was not aware of that term... simply thought "Sponge like Spongebob, she's being cute!".

I hope that's what you had in mind about the name, and not the other, perverted meaning. If it's the other, perverted meaning.. um... you're headed for banning, me thinks, or you will be asked to change your user name, probably. However the mods want to do that... I can't say, since I'm not a mod...

But... ugh.. I had no idea that "sponge" could have such a meaning... Ew.
