I figured since TTGL is easily going to win this small round, why not give the number one vote to an anime that will not do so well so that it has a better chance at not losing in this small round.

Group Fire

Cool, I've actually seen at least some episodes of all the series in this group.

1. Xam'd: Lost Memories (2008)
2. Spirited Away (2001)
3. Death Note (2007)
4. Durarara!! (2010)
5. Planetes (2004)
6. FLCL (2001)

Group Ice
1. Sword of the Stranger (2007)
2. Paprika (2006)
3. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (2007)
4. Macross Frontier: The False Songstress (2009)
5. Kino no Tabi (2003)
6. Full Moon wo Sagashite (2002)

I'm interested to see how you will determine the results from this voting method? Similar to Olympic medal counts maybe? Which was basically by number of golds, then silver then bronze.
I don't know what broke to make you like this, but I must be broken too if I'm standing here praising your destructiveness. -Rock (Black Lagoon)

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul; He guides me in paths of righteousness For His name's sake. Even though I walk though the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me. Thou dost prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; Thou hast anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows. Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23

I was just planning to sum up all the positions as points and then the ones with less points :)

I hope that that 6th place to FLCL is because you haven't seen it *narrows eyes*

Well, yes, I have not seen FLCL so that is partly the reason.

The other reason is simply because from what I heard,

a. It isn't exactly my kind of show.

b. It looks surreal, and I am definitley not a fan of surrealism. And

C. It has some really crass humor from what I heard, and looks kinda stupid from what I heard. (The second part is IMHO of course.)

That's... very clever, but I'm afraid I cannot allow it. While in paper positions = points, it does break the spirit of the competition. I'll accept your votes for group fire, though :)

Zeldafan2 (post: 1591694) wrote:C. It has some really crass humor from what I heard, and looks kinda stupid from what I heard. (The second part is IMHO of course.)

Yeah the other points are rather arguable but ultimately subjective. However, the last one is plainly incorrect. It's a very clever show with several layers of meaning and a very well construed metaphor as the premise of the show.

Here are the results for the first day of the second preliminary round. Titles above the dotted line make a clean advance, between the dotted lines will have to wait until the end of the round as only the best 5 third-places will advance, and titles below the dotted line are out. (Parities broken with points from the previous round):

Group Fire
42 Spirited Away (2001)
43 Durarara!! (2010)
---------------------------------------
61 Planetes (2004)
---------------------------------------
61 Xam'd: Lost Memories (2008)
62 Death Note (2007)
63 FLCL (2001)

Group Ice
40 Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (2007)
46 Paprika (2006)
--------------------------------------------
50 Sword of the Stranger (2007)
--------------------------------------------
52 Kino no Tabi (2003)
57 Macross Frontier: The False Songstress (2009)
65 Full Moon wo Sagashite (2002)

Wow, that group Fire had two very clear winners while the other 4 battled evenly for that third position, the losers being separated by minimal differences! Group Ice on the other hand, had a simple, neat scale. Let's see how today's groups do:

Group Electricity
Eureka Seven (2005)
Chihayafuru (2011)
Cross Game (2009)
Texhnolyze (2003)
Read or Die OVA (2001)
Princess Jellyfish (2010)

Group Wind
Full Metal Panic! (2002)
Library Wars (2008)
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (2007)
Ouran High School Host Club (2006)
Birdy The Mighty Decode (2008)
Seirei no Moribito (2007)

As before, please order each title in each group from 1 to 6 from best to worst (or not watched.) Voting will be open until Friday at 21:00 EST

^ What Mecha said. It's good in its own way, but... not that good.

I am, however, shocked by Kino's Journey not passing. Considering how popular it is on here, that is quite an odd turn of events.

4 Birdy The Mighty Decode (2008)
5 Seirei no Moribito (2007)

Controversial statement: Giving 6th place to Ouran was mostly out of spite instead of the 3rd I'd normally give it in this group. I've watched the series and enjoyed it but I think it's vastly overrated. When you think of the quality of some of the titles that didn't even make it so far, I cannot abide it advancing any further. (Not that my vote is going to even scratch its popularity.)

But once you have successfully endured that pain you will gain a heart that's stout enough not be overcome by anything. Yeah, a heart made fullmetal.
