Angelic Layer

Just saw the first episode of this anime. It seems that it may be for a younger audience so far but it does hold some appeal for the older crowd I suppose. Thus far it's about a 12 yr. old girl who comes to Tokyo to live with her aunt. Her mother sent her off to school when she was five and was never seen again. The girl comes to Tokyo and finds a battle of some kind airing on a big screen on the side of tall builidng. A crowd is gathered and she works her way through to find that two people of some sort in locked in a gigantic battle area duking it out. She later finds that those creatures were "dolls" of a sort and are bought by people all over to compete against one another. The girl remembers how awesome the battle was and buys her own. She decides to give it characteristics of herself and thus her own "Angel" is born.
Anyone have further information?
"So David said to Michal, "It was before the LORD, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the LORD. And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight. But as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honor."

2 Samuel 6: 21&22

"I am going to take this bucket of water and pour it on the flames of hell, and then I am going to use this torch to burn down the gates of paradise so that people will not love God for want of heaven or fear of hell, but because He is God."

Well, I've read the entire (? 5 volumes) manga and really loved it. Then I watched the first episode of the anime the other day and loved it as well. Of course, my perspective is slightly biased as I'm a huge CLAMP fan, but you're right, Bunny, it is an anime/manga that is very clean and would appeal to all ages. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the anime!

I just read the first volume of the manga. It's very good. The characters are well thought out and there is some subtle foreshadowing. Plus it is just find to read, especially Mr. Icchan!

Oh, I love that line! I haven't read many manga, but Angelic Layer is definitely great. Icchan's...er, interesting ways of entering the area are absolutely hilarious!

(in response to an interview question "Do you have a pet peeve having to do with this biz?")
People who write below their abilities in order to crank out tons of books and make a buck. Especially Christian authors who do that. Outsiders judge us for it, and make fun of us for it, and it makes Jesus look bad. We of all artists on earth should be the most concerned with doing our best possible work at all times. We of all people should write with all our hearts, as if writing for the Lord and not for men.
