For your safety

To the members of CAA:

It's come up recently that some serious breeches of privacy have occured at these boards, leading to a new policy for your safety. Do not solicit personal information on board. If we find you are seeking personal information, such as home address, telephone number, etc. for any reason, this is grounds for banning. I don't care how innoculous the reason is; such as "oh, I just wanted to arrange for someone to buy my manga"...it's too dangerous and puts all of our members at risk. Let's face it guys, there are some twisted, sick freaks out there. I just don't want anyone to get hurt.
If you chose to share information, first and foremostly it must be done OFF SITE. And know you do so at your own risk.

That's a very good idea. In fact, I'm thinking about bringing this up with Keely to have it instated at Anime Angels as well. (Hope you don't mind if I quote your above post, Ash.)

Point of Clarification: What about personal information in PMs? If there's someone I trust, am I not permitted to tell them anything?

I think she's saying that if someone hacks it and get's access to EVERYTHING, then it's not just the person you trust who will know it. Right?

PMs are really insecure - they're not encrypted so if someone nasty gets hold of the DB, they could read your pms. There are other reason's we'd like to keep things off site too, eg. liability etc.

I'd prefer if you take stuff like that completely off boards--email, telephone, whatever. If you do chose to do so, know that again, PM's are very insecure, and you do so at your own risk.

You never really know who truly is who online. There are very few I trust online and offline, those are my closest of friends.

Just out of random curiosity: Admins can read others PMs? Not that I care if so, just don't tap my phone line. ;)

If we chose to, yes we could theoretically do so. I.e. yes the ability to read it is there, but no, we don't go around reading it. We highly respect you guys' privacy, for one thing.

Alright. Not that I was going to give anyone important information about myself anyway.
