I think there is already a thread like this but I guess we'll see.

I don't really have a favorite author. But I can say that if the two of my friends actually continue with their storylines and such they will certinally be my favorite authors ^^;

Favorite poet is pretty much the same, though I do love Frost and Longfellow. But if you want absolute favorite over all else and not worldly know yet ... that'll be one of my friends mentioned above who is also a very inactive member here (Drackner). Don't know what I'm going to do with him.

^^;

Hmm... I think we do have a thread like this somewhere... Oh well...

For me, that would be either Poe or Lawhead or Eddings.

Now there's an ecclectic mix...

With regards to prose, I'd have to say that Kurt Vonnegut is my all time favourite author.

As far as poets go, Yeats is one of may favourites but there's quite a few that I like, especially among the Romantics.

Yessss! I get the first to say J.R.R. Tolkien!! *posts before someone else does*

Tolkien's was not only a great author, but a magnificent poet as well. He has a whole index in LotR soley for all the poems/songs found in the books! And there are many memorable songs in The Hobbit and The Silmarillion as well. He even wrote poems in Elvish, the language that he made up o.o

Poets that I think are brilliant at either presenting truth, or evaluating society and culture, who could turna phrase into a thing of beauty, and could make something commonplace seem devine. Here are a few...
Poets:

- John Donne - Once he got over his "love" poems, he wrote some of the most insightful Christian poems I've found. Read some of the Holy Sonnets sometime.

- William Butler Yeats - Here's a fabulous example of someone who could make words beautiful. I don't know that I agree much with his personal mythology, but some of my favorites of his work are "When You Are Old," "The Circus Animal's Desertion" (that one is the best ever!), "The Second Coming," and "Sailing to Byzantium." Pretty cool stuff.

- Wilfred Owen - A painter of word pictures who wrote of the horrors of WWI, he leaves images that remain unendingly. Read absolutely, no questions asked "Dulce Et Decourum Est" (and no, it's not all in latin)

- T. S. Eliot - I think of all the poetry I've read, Eliot's is the most memorable, leaves the greatest impression, and seems the most carefully crafted. Incredible. "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock," Preludes," can't remember the others. Anything after he became a Christian.

I think that will do it for me here.

Another favourite that I'd forgotten: Charles DeLint. The books are essentially urban fantasies with an interweaving of Celtic and Indian myhtologies.

ConvoyButterfly - I absolutely LOVE Mary Higgins Clark's books. ^_^ She's such an engaging author.

Spirit Wolf - Tamora Peirce is a great author as well...I loved her Song of the Lioness series. LOL...that's the series that spawned my nickname Lady Ninja. OH! Since you love wolves, you might enjoy the book "Through Wolf's Eyes" by Jane Lindskold.
