Hey all!

Hey, my name is Thad, and I am a HUGE anime fan. I used to hate anime, but a friend of mine got me hooked. The first anime I watched, and really enjoyed, was Trigun. IMHO, it is still the best. I actually found this site while searching for TMNT pics. My jaw dropped when I found this site, I was like, "No way!". I didn't think it would be to good, because I had seen this kind of thing before, but I read the welcome/policy thread, and it actually made sense. I am really excited about finding other Chritians who watch anime, but who do so with a christian mind. Other 'christian places are either anti-anime, or they also watch hentai/ecchi etc. I am really excited to get to know you guys. If your ever on AIM, drop me a line. I love talking on AIM, just let me know who you are, and will all be cool. If you've gotten this far, thanx for reading.

Hello! What does your name mean BTW? I see the letters SVD and immediately think Singular Value Decomposition, which is probably wrong.

SVD? Nani? [looks confused]

I get this question a lot, because I use this name for everything. Ok, here is what it means:........*drum roll*...... NOTHING.
It is simply the license plate to my old chevy astro van. Nothing more nothing less. I got sick and tired of having to come up with some wierd or cool name that no-one else already had, so I used that, and no-one else ever has it. It's easy for me to remember my name for everything too, if it's the same. So that is the deep dark secret behind my name.

Well, that explains it-jya!
We *could* make a meaning anyways, like:
Super Viper Driver
or
Sloppy Venison Drippings
or
Silicon Violet Ducks
wow...
:2)

I was just more familiar with the acronym representing the mathematical operation (which is why it immediately popped into my head)...

Well, that's just you, TECHNOmancer.
By the way, what the heck was SVD again? Refresh this ojiisan mind, onegaishimas! ;2)

The Singular Value Decomposition is a common matrix operation, often used in least-squares problems. It can be thought of as being similar to an eigendecomposition.
For the SVD, given a real NxM matrix X of rank r, it can be decomposed as:
X=USV(H) (H) indicates the conjugate transpose ie. Hermitian operator
U is an NxN unitary matrix
V is an MxM unitary matrix
S is an NxM diagonal matrix, with r elements called singular values.

Ah, that's why I don't remember it. I stopped studying math short of differential equations, and I think SVD was in that part of the curriculum in my day.
I should get more into higher math... like I want my brain to be effected from a Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster. ;2)

We had to do a fair bit of math in undergrad, let's see:
Several calculus courses (including vector calc.)
Differential equations
Probability and Stats.
Functions of a Complex variable
Linear Algebra
Plus a bunch of other stuff taught as an aside in my other courses (like Fourier and z-transforms). Did a lot of math in my grad courses too, and had to pick up more during various research problems.
Unfortunately, the bars over here don't sell PGGBs. We have to make to do with the more common stuff.

Thanks for reminding me why I didn't pursue a career in any math-related field, Technomancer.
But the real purpose of this post--welcome to CAA, SVD997 and Danni0524!
And for Danek, I'll break out the chocolates.
