I liked it, even though I had never even heard of the series til the movie came out. Hellboy's sense of humor was fresh and rather entertaining, and I think the productin came out extremely well. I have heard they're making an anime out of it though, and that shall be interesting to say the least.

If you want to enjoy the movie, don't read the comic book. Well, this is still an ongoing argument even among Hellboy fans.

it's a complicated issue of people's opinion about the adaptation. Please don't get me wrong. I still had lots of fun watching the movie.

I personally have some serious issues with how Del Toro made some "personality changes" for Hellboy. And being a big Hellboy fan, that change/adaptation just didn't cut it for me.

Mike Mignola's original stories revolve around the theme of the choice one can make even if you are born with the worst situation possible (the Devil's son, who is supposed to bring the apocalypse... wow...). I am sure Del Toro will point out aobut how this is the first movie and the character development is important and stuff. But, the whole "Teenage Angst" that Hellboy has did not make any sense for the character. The whole "learning to be part of the team" theme is too contrite and over used too.

Those are my main two issues. Apparently, the creator/producer Mike Mignola seems like he doesn't mind Del Toro's adaptation that much... So, who am I to say???

Again, I still enjoyed it as an action movie. I just wish it had 20% more of mature characterization of Hellboy....

Don't try to picture the movie when you read the comic book though...

Mike Mignola's approach to story telling and developing characters are way way different that Del Tro's.

Hellboy movie is way more Del Toro in its style than Mignola's...

I didn't go in expecting a lot and came out surprised. It was rather funny and poignant for this type of a movie, and the visuals were really convicing. As strange as it may seem, I was slightly more impressed with some of effects in Hellboy than in Spiderman 2(Not to take anything away from Spiderman).

I also thought the characters were well-thought out and a refreshing change...I might go back and view some of the comics that inspired the film.

Was watching some of the documentary on the DVD today, I was amazed at how much wasn't CG, and some of what was. Really a pretty good movie, and it's interesting to hear from the creator of the comic in there as well in reguards to what the director did with the film.
