Mozilla - who uses it?

I use Firebird. If you haven't made the switch yet, it's a far superior browser to IE.

Here are a few of the reasons why it's better than IE:

Fits more nicely into memory - therefore faster
Crashes less
Tabbed browsing (click a hyperlink with the middle mouse button and a new tab is opened for it, really nice feature, saves the taskbar getting clogged)
Quick search on pages - press the / button and type text, the browser will find the text as you type
Built in pop up blocker
Seach box (which is Google by default)
Imports your IE bookmarks

"Fixes" that were added in the new version

Click and drag middle mouse button to scroll rapidly (like in IE)
Better CSS support

I switched recently and I recommend that those who haven't yet do so... you will not regret it!

Not to mention the 50+ security flaws that were found in IE this last year... Geez!

If you miss one of those updates, any website can run any code on your machine. Effectively assuming control of your computer. IE is just plain bad news...

As for mozilla, I use Camino. It's the Mac OS X port of Mozilla. It's amazing. That's all I can say.

I really dislike Netscape - it has a lot of nasty AOL stuff added which isn't necessary. The people who write AOL are worse than Microsoft.. each to their own though I guess.

I had Navigator once...to me, it's just not Mozilla/Firebird. Perhaps it's better than it used to be, but it was very crashy and hogged memory on my system. Anyway, in my experience, Firebird has operated -very- well in the couple of months I've been using it; it almost never crashes and when it does, it's often the fault of another program. One bit of advice: for those of you already using IE, you might want to keep it installed for a while, since there are a few sites that refuse to become fully compatible with anything but IE... But these are fortunately very few and far between. Since my dad won't use Mozilla and I won't use IE, we have to keep both on board...*mutters*

I get back to you on what I think...

Mozilla is a great browser - left IE with Mozilla 1.0 and have never been back since. I had aol a while back; I can't stand it at all. Firebird is more friendly than the normal Mozilla. Yeah, not only is IE swiss cheese, but it doesn't keep (isn't consistent) with the W3C standards either.

That's one of the things that really bugged me. For instance, it doesn't support certain features of CSS. It was some aspect of transparency; I read about it when I was trying to figure how to do transparent iframes. It works in Netscape, Mozilla and variations, but not in IE.

Maybe I should start using Mozilla again...for some reason it was eating up a lot of memory or something 'cause it seemed to slow everything down. o_O But other than that I liked it.

yea

Maybe you should try using Firebird instead of plain Mozilla, Shiroi. It runs much more quickly on my system, and although it doesn't have a mail client or HTML editor, it's no big deal. You can get a new HTML editor to replace the built-in Composer and you can also dl Thunderbird (a good mail client) from the Mozilla site as well.

I just downloaded and I like it a little better than IE. It is a little faster, to me atleast, and I think I'll be using it.

Worst case scenareo, if you move over to mozilla, you don't have to worry about some guy's MIDI on his website hacking your computer.

(I'm not making it up. Turns out that's just ONE of the major security bugs that IE had. At least they patched it... Eventually).

Woah, I'm like confused. Ok, Heaven's cloud has like oldphil's old avatar and no longer a Gandalf avatar and then Oldphil post and he has a Gandalf avatar. Anyways, back to topic.....

Ok, I downloaded mozilla and firebird and well, I'm not impressed. I already have the google toolbar and they run the same. I’ll give it some more time....

Many of Mozilla's plusses come in what you DON'T see, (ie, it doesn't have nearly as many security flaws). Having run IE for years, I believe I can safely say this...LOL

Press CTRL-T or click a link with the middle mouse button, all will become clear - tabbed browsing, something that IE never had. Once you use it you won't ever look back

:lol: It's just the opposite with me and my dad. He won't use IE and I won't use Mozilla because there are so many of my site's affiliates use iframes. O.o;;;

Speaking of CERT. Here's an excerpt from the latest (9/9/2003) CERT summary about IE specifically, and general windows DLLs:
Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows Libraries and Internet Explorer

During this quarter, there were a number of vulnerabilities reported
in Microsoft Windows Libraries and within Internet Explorer. Below is
a summary of those vulnerabilities.

a. Buffer Overflow in Microsoft Windows HTML Conversion Library

A buffer overflow vulnerability exists in a shared HTML conversion
library included in Microsoft Windows. An attacker could exploit
this vulnerability to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of
service. On July 14, the CERT/CC issued an advisory describing
this vulnerability.

CERT Advisory CA-2003-14
Buffer Overflow in Microsoft Windows HTML Conversion
Library

Vulnerability Note VU#823260

b. Integer Overflows in Microsoft Windows DirectX MIDI Library

A set of integer overflows exists in a DirectX library included in
Microsoft Windows. An attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities
to execute arbitrary code or to cause a denial of service. On July
25, the CERT/CC issued an advisory describing these
vulnerabilities.

CERT Advisory CA-2003-18
Integer Overflows in Microsoft Windows DirectX MIDI
Library

Vulnerability Note VU#265232
Microsoft Windows DirectX MIDI library does not
adequately validate MThd track values in MIDI files
http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/265232

c. Multiple Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Internet Explorer

Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) contains multiple
vulnerabilities, the most serious of which could allow a remote
attacker to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user
running Internet Explorer. On August 26, the CERT/CC issued an
advisory describing these vulnerabilities.

CERT Advisory CA-2003-22
Multiple Vulnerabilities in Microsoft Internet Explorer

There are two other features that I remember.
The Dj wrote:...
Quick search on pages - press the / button and type text, the browser will find the text as you type
...

Or you can just not press '/' and be able to search for links as you type.

I've noticed that some people have complained about loosing their entire posts when accidentaly going to another website or hitting the refresh button. This is not a problem in Mozilla. You can hit refresh and still have your uposted post. You can go to a different website and hit the back button and your unposted post is there.

i've been using firebird for a few days now and i really like it. the pages load faster. the only annoying thing with it, is when i try to download stuff, this box pops up and asks what i want to open the file with, and even if i select a program, the "OK" button is still greyed out. I'm sure they will fix it though. but it's a great browser. and i love the tabs, cause im always on, like, 4 pages at once  and that "/" search combo thingy, is cool too
