Ok, I have a windows ME and it just crashed a day ago. I've tried about everything and I've figured out there are two DLL files that are the problem.
I've done, system restore, restart, msconfig (thats a keeper, I still like it), and uninstalling windows and it still doesn't work and I am mad. Help me! :comp: :?:

Get rid of windows ME!! It's a really bad version of windows. Stay away from 2000 and ME please. Anyway if you can track down a copy of win 98 or get XP. The operating system can have alot to do with why your computer is crashing.

ME is a nightmare. Do yourself a favor and get another OS if you can. I'd revert to Win95 before I'd touch ME again. UGH.

I've heard nothing but bad things about ME. If there are only 2 .dll files causing the problem, can't you just track them down and replace them? I don't know if I fully understand the problem you are having, could you be more specific? What .dll files do you think are the culprits?

2000 is an excellent OS for gaming. Please do not discourage people using it. I personally do, and I to this date has never found a single flaw in 2000 that wasn't a generic Windows flaw.

Something tells me that there's more to this than DLL files; though I can't be sure, I suspect a virus. Have you tried completely reformatting the hard drive (not just QuickFormatting it) and then reinstalling Windows? That way any viruses you might have picked up should be completely eradicated.

However, I only recommend this as a last resort. Try everyone else's ideas first!

Melodymaker could be right about the virus thing. Some viruses will change file associations or file extensions, but I don't know of any that affect .dll files specifically. Regardless, a virus scan is something you absolutely must do (if you're even able to).

Those are all good ideas guys, but on safe mode (which I cant switch over from) is not detecting my CD drive, which doesn't allow me to reinstall windows. It will be as simple as cake as soon as it detects the drive, and I just reinstall. But, how do I run the reinstall if it doesn't show the drive on MY COMPUTER.

My Brother-in-law has a habbit of "oh, I've got to reinstall" or "there are some DLLs that are bad/missing" due to error messages or the like on startup.

Most every time he's told me this, when I check the computer it turns out to be virial or parasites (AdWare/SpyWare) and usually when those things are dealt with the system goes back to behaving. I'd look there first, and get rid of anything starting up that you don't need, MSConfig should help with most of that (and it's easy enough to restore them if you want).
