I almost died!

I was at home, I had just cooked dinner about a few hours ago, worked on the computer and writing on this very forum. My roomate came home and said, "Oh my goodness, it smells awful here! Did you leave the gas on?!"

I came out from my room and said, "Nope...why?" And she said, "Goodness, your face is so pink!!" I ran to a mirror and was shocked to stare back at a bright pink face!!! I quickly ran out to breathe fresh air. [I shut most windows since it's cold] Only then, did I detect the gas smell. I've been breathing so much of the poison.

The awful truth dawned to me that I would have died if it weren't for my roomate (or more like it, if it weren't for God). It was around 12-1 a.m...I remember feeling kinda sleepy at that time and thought "well, it's time to go to bed anyway." I mean, maybe it was actually the effect of CO gas poisoning that was coerces me to shut my eyes for good!

My God, my God, my Merciful Father in Heaven, I am so thankful that I'm still alive now! It's only by Your mercy and Grace that I'm still writing here at this forum. I still feel a bit traumatized by it and scared to sleep now. But I'll go pray and seek His comfort.

That's really scary... good thing you got out in time :/

Do you live in rented accomodation? I'd put something forward to the authorities and try to get compensation - in the UK the penalties are very heavy for CO poisoning

I'd try and see a doctor asap too - CO binds permanently to the haemoglobin in your blood, rendering it useless. It takes the blood a significant amount of time to recover so you may end up feeling dodgy for quite a while

Djnoz, the apt management is currently working on switching all stoves from gas to electric but it's just been taking some time to complete every block. Some rooms have caught fire before. 0.o

Also, since I'm not having problems breathing or feeling anything too out of the ordinary, I probably won't see a doctor but instead will take things easy, rest a lot and take my time to recuperate. [Ack, let go of my haemoglobin, stinky CO! :mutter:] However, now that you mentioned it, I noticed that I get out of breath more quickly when I ran or did something physically heavier than usual today. @_@

Inky, I'm glad too! Hate to have my manga project stopped permanently! >_<

Yikes, Shinja, good point! I'm glad my roomate doesn't smoke! One more thing to thank God for! Alleluia! To get the gas out, we basically opened all windows, switched on fans and it was gone quickly, I think it was kinda windy at that time too. I spent some good 15 -30 minutes outside, breathing fresh air. Ahhh...it's so good to be alive.

It's humbling to think just how fragile our lives really are--they can be taken in an instant! The Lord was surely looking out for you that night.

BTW, what is it about the gas that makes your face pink..?
