"Rae"
Her scent is like the southern rain in summer,
Coming to me often and unexpected.
Her breath comes to me as the winter winds,
Cool and clean,
And in her eyes I seel the ebon fells of night,
And all the quiet promsies that lay therein.
She grasps me about the shoulders and I see
The nights embrace around my soul,
the comfort found in starry heights
and warm, deep depths
She is my soft summers night,
Full of moon and mystery
Cool and calm she discovers me
An impish smile ill covered by my angels hand.
Do not describe to me the pleasures of the day
for I have abandoned dawn and the judging sun
I find my peace in the Night Lands,
Where soft sand meets starry sky,
where clouds clothed in ebony drift past a marble moon
The muted colors declaring a longer lasting love.
My forest encompasses me,
Cool eddies blow through the bristles
As her hands encircle me
I feel the surety of Stone
and the endless capacity of caverns.
I once looked for flowers
In they Day I searched for roses
The light of the judging sun declared a painful will for me.
But roses wilted
My garden of love upset
And the heat of the day claimed every last flowering beauty.
Now the Light of day is no longer mine to claim
Instead, I rule the night
My sweet, Sweet love
Her kiss is the tast of moonbeams and starshine
The conflagration of the heavens is stolen from the bosom of starry, starry night, and placed in her lips.
And in the Night I find
Peace from the heat of sun and lamp
From screaming lights and noiseless masses
Crammed together in worship of the slow dying light.
Do not tell ME of the innocence of doves
or the beauty of swans
or the strength of eagles
For I shall hold the raven in my mind forever more.
She is my night
My escape from the reality of the sun
And under cover of her ebon wings
I realize the deepest of comforts.
You could declare to me
"The Sun is the extent of life!"
And I would still smile
And sleep through daylight
If only to discover myself in her embrace again.
I leave you, I leave you, children of the daytime
My father is the owl and my mother the dragon,
My brother is the wolf and my sister is the batr,
Those who live by the laws of night
And seek no aid from light stalking
We find no peace in day living
the Peace of night is sufficient for us.
But I return to her always
For she encircles me eternally
"And He Me!"
She would declare
But her victory is declared over mind and heart.
For My Raven,
Zarn.
